Connery looked a lot younger here?

Currently having a 'Connery' night of movies (in tribute to his passing) Got through both 'Robin & Marian' and 'The offence' and I'm now watching 'Outland'
Given the timeframe of this movie, I can't help but notice how young and lean Connery looks here? I'm fully aware he wore different 'Hairpieces' in movies (as he did here) but looking back at prior releases (like 'Meteor') or the subsequent movies ('The Man With The Deadly Lens' or even 'Never Say Never Again') when he went back to looking as craggy as he had done since 'Diamonds Are Forever' (if not earlier?)

Perhaps it was the designer stubble, tan and baseball cap?
