I wonder why the changed the music

I'd say the answer's in the question: they wanted it similar to keep the theme, but not the exact same to earn complaints of just copying and pasting it

Maybe it was to make it scarier. The synthesizer soundtrack was spookier for some tracks than their original counterparts. For example, “Laurie and Jimmy” is scarier than “The Haunted House.”
