Why do people like this movie!

I am a 70's and 80's horror film nut and was really looking forward to seeing this movie so I bought it to add to my collection. Boy, what a mistake!

The acting was horrible, the plot was barely there, and the killing scenes were sickening!

The only thing I did like was seeing Jason Alexander(Hey George!!!) pre-Seinfeld days- I guess we all have to pay the bills somehow.

3 out of a 10.

Yep. I should have been named 'Another Teen Slasher Flick'. Routine and more silly than scary. Far more. Boat load of teens who don't put up any fight? Common....

I think hannahp1 and others are correct, this is the worst horror movie ever. Not because of the gore or the acting - it was just incredibly stupid and not the least bit scary or suspenseful. Maybe it's a New York thing - this movie is all NY, the location, the director, most of the actors...

I didn't think the acting was bad, in fact is was probably good, but 70's and 80's slashers weren't supposed to have good acting! This is a B movie and cheesiness is what makes B movies fun and appealing. What they are supposed to be is non-stop suspense and killing but this movie had very long stretches where no one is getting chased or killed. The plot in a B movie can be completely pointless but it needs to be coherent enough to scare you and keep your attention. This movie seemed like they just made it up as they were shooting!

Given the choice of watching this movie again or staring at a blank wall for 90 minutes, I would choose the wall.

Agreed Chip. The acting was actually better than most 80s slashers! I'm a huge slasher fan and really gotta rate this one pretty low. Outside of Halloween and F13 - obvious classics - the only other ones I really love are 'My Bloody Valentine' and 'Sleepaway Camp'. I loved seeing Alexander, and I liked the premise of the film. After the beginning, I was sure I'd be in for a fun ride. But alas, I wasn't. Pretty boring slasher fare. Only part I enjoyed was the raft scene, which had some cool gore. There's far worse slashers with crappier production values and whatnot, but I guess I was expecting more 'Halloween' from this.

for the guy who made the original post, slasher movies are supposed to have bad acting, thin plots and loads of gore. I like them, and can accept that, why can't you? You may be confusing slasher films with other, deeper horror movies of the 70's and 80's. I like all kinds of horror movies, but the traits you complain about in this movie are traits shared with the same movies you say you like.

It's just an average slasher flick from the 80s. I thought it was going to be particularly good, but it turned out to be another slasher from the 80s, that's all.

At first, I was going to come here and bash the film because I found it way too similar to 'Friday the 13th', but it turns out that the script of this movie, was apparently written before that (I'm not sure I totally believe that, but let's not be completely skeptical either).

I had fun watching this film. The plot was barely there, that's true. It wasn't a really complex slasher or anything like that. The killing scenes weren't sickening enough to me, although I DID enjoy the infamous raft massacre and Cropsy's dead towards the last minutes.

I'd recommend 'The Burning' to anyone who can enjoy slasher flicks from the 80s for what they are. And by the way, I don't think the acting was that bad, except maybe for the guy who played 'Glazer'. Man, he was terrible!

I like this movie because I saw it aged 11 just before the BBFC banned it. Scared the bejesus out of me. Now own the dvd & still love watching it. Hard choice between Friday the 13th & this.

I just seen this for the first time after hearing about it from alot of people and I loved that they took the time to develope the characters and make you care. I also loved all the false scares that just helped build the tension. I thought the acting was another thing that makes it stand out because the acting is way better then most slashers. But to each there own personly I loved it.
