A mean spirited, bloodthirsty zombie film! *****!
Cheesy, but great horror film from the word go. An aged professor tampers in an underground crypt, and unfortunately awakens a horde of decomposing zombies. This couldn't be at a worse time for a group of vacationers, who arrive at a villa nearby to socialize and relax, amongst other things. Cut to the chase the zombies arrive and proceed to tear apart and devour the group in all sorts of gruesome ways. The remaining survivors manage to flee into the countryside the next day, come across a monastery, run from there (filled with zombies), and finally seal their fate when the undead trap them in a "builders workshop," in an ending which would really give even a most jaded horror buff shudder. The zombies in the film are well casted (They are everywhere!"), and well created to rottingly perfection by Italian make-up artist Maurizio Trani (Zombi 2, Troll 2), even using live worms and maggots! But the best thing about Nights Of Terror, is the fact that these zombies only have one goal, to tear apart and eat! No reasoning with the bastards. Blood and guts, incest themed, cannibalistic shock after shock. In the same vein as Fulci's Zombi 2, which was released a year earlier. Bit of trivia: When originally released on vhs in the UK by Apex dis., the film was whoppingly cut by over 13 minutes! And if you want to only see the best current version, I assume on Blu ray - Grab the 88 films edition from the UK, it has an Italian track. Great, nasty zombie film in the heights of Italian film insanity!
