Rediscovering the Charm and Brilliance of this Show!

After a recent visit to Hawaii, I found myself revisiting Magnum PI. What a brilliant show.

Tom Selleck was truly such a star and had a real influence on my youth growing up. I briefly looked at the new Magnum PI series and laughed as sadly will nearly all remakes and efforts pales in comparison with a lack of talent at every level.

Looking at it now, the series was at times a little too melodramatic - Sharon Stone ending? Also, I was surprised at the amount of flashbacks and Vietnam scenes there were which gave the characters extra backstory.

This series is so enjoyable, it's amazing how much bigger and better everything was after the iconic Mike Post theme.

Did you know Higgins was not British in real-life, but a Texan?

So fun to hang out with Thomas and the Gang!

Yeah, all true. The new Magnum series compared to the original is like a high school play compared to Broadway.

haha well-said! although high school play maybe also too generous.

This was a great show and I grew up with it as well. About a year ago, I went back and watched many of the old episodes. There were some bad ones but I noticed season 3-4 really changed the whole tenor and the show got dramatically better. I found this website that provided a deep dive into the show and trivia:
https://magnum-mania.com/

Somewhere on the site they had updated photos of Robin’s Nest in total disarray before it was torn down for a new mansion.

I didn’t realize how popular the show was until I saw that the final season finale had incredible viewer numbers

You are right about Season 3 and 4 being the best. Funny how that seems to be the case in many series. Star Trek the Next Generation being the best example that comes to mind.

Thank you so much for this GREAT website. So sad about Robin's Nest, but oh-well...progress.

Bought the DVDs and rewatched it a couple of years ago and had the same reaction. Also had the same reaction to the reboot.
