I get Deja Vu when i see the cover...

Everytime i see the cover it becomes bizarrely familia, ages ago as a kid I saw the cover and felt i remebered it from somewhere, since then I was haunted by what the movie was but couldnt remember it, I spent ages thinking it was Th Relic, but avast that was wrong. Then finally, after comissioning a friend to search for a poster of a movie with some kind of 'alien fetus' on the front, we turn up this movie, and there is that poster thats haunted me for so long staring back at me.
I've yet to watch the movie, but I was wondering if anyone else has had the deja vu feeling with this poster or others, and what they think the cause might be, ie, past lives or whatever - did anyone die during filming or something? :P

I seem to recall an alternate cover. Or more exactly, the theater poster that had 3 "fetuses" on there, one of which is the one that's on the film cover now.
I don't recall what the other 2 were fetuses of but they were of different monsters.

Oh yeah, I rembember that. I think the 3 fetuses were in the movie ads that ran in newspapers. The fetuses were actually all the same monster. They ran sequentially from left to to right to imply growing development. The fist one (left) was small and you could barely make out the features. The second (middle) was a little larger and the characteristics were becoming a bit more clear. The last one (right) was the one you now see on all the movie posters and dvd covers. Good memory, magic8.

I've seen that poster of the 3 fetuses as you faithfully describe it. It's on the gallery of IMDb's photos of the film.

I used to get the cover confused with Cronenberg's The Brood (the old 80's VHS cover that is).

my cousin died . . . he came back to life though . . .
in dawn of the dead a person dies three days after getting bitten . . . jesus rose in three days (peter says it about roger in the 1979 version)

An odd one this.

It's a kind of ecology thriller but with elements of horror and monster movie.

It was directed by John Frankenheiner, who did some great stuff but by this time was just taking whatever was offered.

I kind of like it. Its far from perfect. There is awkward sub plot about Talia Shire being pregnant and drawing parallels with the monster and her offspring. And another one about Native Americans having a connection to the creature.

One of the main problems is that when the monster is revealed it'd less than impressive. Its the Jaws syndrome, the earlier attacks where you don't see it are more effective.

However, it looks great, beautiful wide-screen photography.

It kind of came and went at the cinema very quickly and didn't perform very well, and is largely forgotten. But its now on DVD and blu ray and certainly worth a look if you are interested.

Nice writeup. It is an odd one. I remember it from the theater where the monster was scarier - and I was younger. I still enjoy re-watching it. It's not perfect but unlike many horrors it assumes a level of intelligence on the part of its audience. Also not too many films that star Robert Foxworth.
