Exactly underrated
This movie, especially the great pacino performance deserves something better than a 7.one of the best courtroom movies and one of the best of all best pacino movies.anybody else think so?
shareits not al's best performance.
''try and try until you *beep* give up eventually'' -me
This movie was highly panned by most when the movie came out. I wasn't even aware that Pacino was nominated for a Oscar unti now because the movie bombed.
I thought is was one of his best movies, I still get upset when that lawyer forgot about the transexual's case and came late and forgot every thig the Pacino character told him to say. Also I think the twist in the end was very interesting and John Forstyhe was very good.
most under rated film ever yet every one quotes the ending
share"Out of order? You're out of order! You're out of order!! The whole trial is OUT OF ORDER!!!"
That was incredible, I was nearly jumping around my room cheering at him :D
9/10

This movie is the reason pacino is my favorite actor his performance is so powerful and believeable. Definitely belongs on the top 250 and is extremely underrated! Shame i have to watch this masterpiece in full screen here in the states.
shareMost underrated ever? You kidding me? Get real.
shareVery underrated. Great supporting cast, especially Christine Lahti in her first big screen appearance. The courts are probably still as messed up today as in 1979. The defense opening statement is classic, all in one take. Al Pacino gives a great performance, definitely Oscar worthy. He runs emotions from extreme joy (Judge Fleming's arrest) to deepest despair (Ralph Aggee's suicide, Jeff's death) to unmitigated anger (Warren's foul up with Ralph's hearing and the subsequent windshield smashing.) Jack Warden's portrayal of Judge Raeford is a gem. Lee Strasberg is letter perfect as Grandfather, never letting the degeneration of his mind and body go over the line into parody. This movie is as relevant today as it was almost 30 years ago.
shareJust watched Sidney Lumet's "The Verdict" (1982) and seeing Jack Warden in it, it reminded me of a film he was in and that I thought to be this one, but I am not sure. Can you or anyone help me out?
The scene I loved was Jack Warden having his lunch outside of his office or building he worked in - not too uncommon I know (why not go outside on your lunch break you know), apart from the fact that he sat down directly outside of his office window on the 7th floor or so. I think it was AL Pacino looking for him (something to do with work or a problem he needed to talk about with him) and in shocking amazement finding Jack Warden there not caring about the risk and staring calmly into nothing and vaguely answering AL Pacino or offering philosophies or so, meanwhile eating a sandwich. Jack Warden must be portraying the character Judge Francis Rayford if it indeed is the movie "And Justice for All" I was searching?
Yep, you got the right movie. That scene is from "And Justice for All". It just had a "Special Edition" DVD release in March.
shareGreat and tnx NinjaJoe for the Re:.
Do you know whether there is also a Region 2 (Europe, UK) release to that title?
I take it you mentioned the american Region 1 "Special Edition" DVD release in March.
You're right, I was referring to the Region 1 DVD. I'm not sure if it got released in Region 2 as well.
shareI totally agree. I think this is one of the best courtroom related dramas ever made. Pacino was at his best, the supporting cast fantastic, script was brilliant and the emotions were so intense. I remember this movie was barely a 7 a few years back, now it's rating has increased by 0.2, kinda significant if you ask me. I hope more people watch this gem and appreciate it.
Solid 9/10
Now it's 7.4, thank God.
This movie blew me out of my seat. Not only in my top 3 of Al Pacino movies (the other two are Manglehorn and Carlito's Way), but could possibly even be in my top 20 of all time. Brilliant acting, brilliant writing, brilliant directing and brilliant cinematography. I love it.
Around 7 seems appropriate, this movie is very over the top at times, and has a very "movie for TV" feel.
shareI thought there was too much going on, I would have removed a few storylines, I would have gotten rid of the helicopter ride and the suicidal judge, the visits with his grandfather and one of his other cases that went south. It was just too much. One scene after where everything is going wrong. This is about 90 minutes of a very good film and about 30 minutes of going over the top, which is probably fitting because Pacino seems to love that kind of acting style, too. I'd give it 7/10.
