Anyone remember when this was SO hard to get on DVD?......

I'd say some time from 1998-2000, they had released a version on DVD which went out of print and it wasn't re-released for years after. I mean frikken years! This was the case with quite a few of the B horror movies if I recall actually. Some just took a damn eternity to be released altogether, like Night of the Comet and the Leprechaun movies.

But my mother and I were constantly searching so many video stores back in those days for a DVD copy. Finally, the ultimate edition was released sometime around the mid 00's with the theatrical cut, extended cut, and Italian cut. The package was so nice and filled with extras. It was great to have after waiting all that time.

Night of the Comet was actually a worse wait, as I think there wasn't an official DVD copy until the late 00's. I wound up having my friends grandpa use his VHS to DVD unit to burn an old taped from T.V copy from the mid 90's to a writable disk. The quality was God awful LOL. It was handy to have though, as we never thought we'd get an official version.

Did anyone have a similar experience with this movie, or any others from those days? Ahh...the early days of DVD.

reply

yes, definitely! Wasn't there a draught for a time in the VHS days as well? Right now it's out of print cause Rubinstein wants crazy money for the rights.

reply

Absolutely. This was one of the harder-to-find horror classics on VHS, I found - at least in Australia. It was around, but not that easily available, unlike, say, obvious titles like The Exorcist.

As for DVD, yes - but, then, an innumerable amount of films have taken more than a dog's life to make it on the format. Some are still unavailable on DVD.

I remember Suncoast in the mall had the special DVD with the repeat design of the logo in different colors to sorta mock that Andy Warhol artwork. It was REALLY and ugly cover. But it was out by 1998 - 2000 ?

Shango7200, you're talking about the "Night Of The Living Dead: 30th Anniversary Limited Edition" DVD set.

It came out in August 24th, 1999 for $34.95.

They filmed new scenes for it and took stuff out. Turning it from an unknown cause to a religous reason.

It would've been cool had it worked. But it didn't.

Had a tough time finding Bad Boys. Eventually Suncoast ordered it for me for 30, had to 5 bucks down. Found it 3 days later at Best Buy for 20. Never picked up when suncoast called back, ripoff. I had a hard time finding Mallrats, too.

For me, "Suncoast" is a place to browse movies, get ideas.

Then order off Ebay or Amazon or Half for a lot cheaper.

This was years ago, I very rarely bought things. They had a great selection, but very pricey. If I did buy something it was a shirt or an action figure or some sort of movie collectible.

Early days of DVD were brutal. And EXPENSIVE. I have sets of DVDs I bought for 400 dollars that you can buy for 15 bux now. As for this movie, I still watch it on VHS!
