What happened to the blu-ray release from Synapse?

Like, two years ago, Synapse said they were starting work on a blu-ray transfer of the movie. So where is it? Has there been any word on it?

"They don't make straightjackets like they used to. I should know..."

If you missed the limited edition Steelbook, the regular, wide-release edition was released Tuesday. And it's getting rave reviews!

Just got mine in the mail today, pretty excited. Will report back tonight after it's over (saw the original on the internet in original quality)

To whoever has the DVD version by Synapse, can you respond this question: which titles does the DVD use, the original Italian titles or the English titles?

reply

I don't own it yet, but I can answer your question.

The Synapse Blu-ray uses both the English and Italian titles. You can select which one you want via the menu. On the same note, the film includes both the English 4.0 (96kHz/24-bit) and Italian 5.1 (48kHz/24-bit) audio tracks. It's the uncut 96 minute version either way, so you can enjoy Suspiria any way you want.

IT's just a pity that Synapes felt they had to resort to talking shit about an imminent European release. Denouncing the efforts they were employing to restore the original colour timing before even seeing the results. Getting the DOP to call it an "abortion". Like he was some 17 year old internet warrior.

The head of Synapse even said that 4 chan matrix Dolby Stereo, the surround theatre format we all knew and loved for twenty odd years from Star Wars onward, was just "some frequencies thrown to back" in order to promote the 4 chan magnetic track that they were including.

The two different releases are for different regions and aren't for competing for sales except with multi region collectors. To this day I can understand why they chose to act like complete arseholes.
