Why Was the Car there to begin with?

No explanation it just showed up and started havoc. Silly but fun cheesy 70s flashback.

I think the reason this film works so well is precisely because there is no explanation. The Car just is. I remember one professional reviewer describing The Car as being 'a horror that arrives out of a clear blue sky.'

As good a reason as any. Although I will admit I was one of the people wondering "Why?" when i first saw the film.

Because it's EVIL. And what better way to start a day than by killing a couple of teenagers??

Driven by a male spookie being who got lost and wouldn't ask for directions so it ended up lost!!

For the same reasons that I like horror/sci fi westerns, the wide open spaces allow for a lot of strange things to happen without explanation. People get out where no one else is and often no one would know about it. The is also the very good plot line of characters getting in the way of Native American sacred lands that don't take kindly to trespassers.

I see the car as a demon that can manifest in any form it wants. It just so happened to choose a car. Since demons only exist to hurt people and cause chaos it acted accordingly. I'm not sure why it chose that particular town at that particular time. But lots of movies explain too much. It's nice to have a bit of mystery sometimes.
