Notice the black couple arguing in the supermarket at the end?

Think hubby will be invited in to the men's association? First black member. The 70s breaking down barriers! LOL

Yes I did. Remember the older woman telling Joanna and Bobbie that a black family was moving to town? I'm sure it wouldn't be long before you know what!

I'm watching this now and just watched that part. I wasn't born when this movie came out but was such a thing really a common? A whole town without a black person???? That sounds crazy! But, this is Stepford so I guess it is.

Back in the 70's there were small towns without any black people. I would doubt though that if the town was located in Fairfield county that would be the case. In the northeast or northwest part of CT, I could see that being very true in the 70's, but not in an area with such a large population that is so close to New York City.

Hah, yes, I did! That wife was still *normal*. Remember that older real estate lady was quite excited to have their first black family move to town? I just love the ending of this movie with this supermarket scene and the creepy music.

reply

I don't think it was the real estate woman who was excited, but the woman who wrote a column for the local newspaper. I'll have to watch again.

Affirmative action would create the first black clonebot.

You mean white clonebot? White women are the only people that benefit from AA.
Cute post tho, lol

You can't move into Stepford without being vetted by the Men's Association. The black husband is already a member.

The book goes more into detail and the black family have a bigger role in the books.

The husband I believe is in the entertainment business and his wife an artist. She becomes friends with Joanna.

I need to read the book again. I don't remember that part. But it makes sense. As controling as the town is I can see you have to be approved before you move in.

reply

Well there goes the neighborhood, even if it is Stepford
