I hate it when people refer to the SHARK as 'Jaws'

My sister used to do this when she'd be talking about the movie as a kid, and it drove me crazy. She'd say something like "Yeah, and then Jaws popped up from under the water and bit his arm off!" And I see people doing the same thing in some of these threads.

Can we all just agree that 'Jaws', although it obviously refers to the powerful, deadly jaws of the shark, is just the name of the MOVIE, and not the name of the shark? The shark doesn't HAVE a name, because it's a freaking SHARK. Peter Benchley could have just as easily titled the book 'Teeth'. Besides, it's a different shark in each of the movies. Are they ALL named Jaws?

Maybe people are actually just referring to the lowercase, body-part 'jaws' and you're looking at it wrong ;)

Nahhh, that doesn't make sense in the context of what i've heard a lot of people say. They are clearly referring to Jaws as the name of The Shark. "Jaws swam up and ate a guy!" "Jaws got electrocuted when he bit into the cable!" "Jaws came after Brody's wife in the fourth movie!"

'Jaws' is the shark's nickname.
