The most completely ridiculous film ever made!

Also, one of the ten most boring movies ever made. A pathetic waste of Hackman.

SCREWBUSH

I don't think that's fair.

This was a totally solid sequel to an Oscar-winning hit movie. The second half rocked, as Popeye went on his revenge trail by burning down that hotel and then endlessly chasing Charnier before killing him.

There were two great shootouts, as well, perhaps better than the one which ended the first movie.

no toolate the most ridiclous film ever is probably smokey and the bandit 2 or something like that. FC2 is actually better than FC even though it flopped at the box office (probably becoz people dont want to see heroin withdrawal scenes) and won no oscars. it actually cost 3million dollars to make and only made about 15 million dollars

reply

I agree. This film is quite good, if not, better than The French Connection. Hackman's performance in the film was excellent.

reply

$15 million in 1975 was nothing to sneeze at. But yeah, it is a forgotten film. Most people I talk to don't even know there was a sequel made.

reply

15 million on a budget of 3 is no flop.

That would still be considered a hit today. 2022’s Fall grossed $21.8 million on a $3M budget and there are already two sequels planned. It’s just that major studios today no longer make anything for much under $100 million.

And had The OP foreseen the regression American cinema would experience from '16-today, he'd be grateful for those eras in which movies like FCII were regularly produced

reply

I hadn’t seen the movie in — no kidding — 49 years, so it was like a stint of time travel.

Two things were clear: it was much better — and braver — than I remember, and your point: they sure as f$$&# don’t make ‘em like that anymore. By any stretch.

reply

agreed. this film sucked. they stuck in the heroin addiction/withdrawal scenes to flesh out an otherwise pointless movie.

What the $%*& is a Chinese Downhill?!?

reply

This movie is pure genius.. The ending is unforgettable! So original and intense

reply

Damn right, OP could not see all the subtlety in this film, and is probably not old enough yet.

reply

Surely whats even more ridiculous is creating a post calling a film the most ridiculous ever made, and not actually saying why?

reply

I have to admit, the Mickey Mantle scene was one of the best pieces of acting i've ever seen. For me, time almost stopped watching Hackman literally bring the character to life.
