Why didn't Cheri Oteri achieve post-SNL success?

Cheri Oteri was a huge star when she was on SNL and responsible for several memorable main characters. Yet, after SNL, while she still has steady work, she didn't become a huge household name like say Will Ferrell (who she did several sketches with).

Simple, if you don't carry the show you'll never become a truly big star. But you will always have enough work, very nice career/salary.

85 credits on IMDb, so she's had steady work, but not at the level, as you say, of Spartan cheerleading partner Will Ferrell. Maybe her bad facelift.
