Sleestacks Poll

Okay, show of hands from Generation Xers and people from the generation of the 70s that watched this show. Who among you is willing to admit that the Sleestacks scared the living crap out of you?

reply

Scared me too as a kid.

Doctor Who: "I'm a Time Traveler, I point and laugh at archaeologists."

They look just like the "Greys" who abduct people.

In the episode FOLLOW THAT DINOSAUR, the Marshalls read from some journal they find that they were named after a Major Joshua Sleestak by two colonial soldiers who had already been there.

This Major Joshua Sleestak must have been one mean son of a bitch to have the Sleestak named after him. He was probably of Dutch extraction and the name is probably pronounced SLAY-STOCK in Dutch.

Be like Robin Hood. Steal from the rich and KEEP IT!

I was age four to seven so yes they scared the crap out of me. But the show was so damn good that I kept watching every Saturday morning. This is probably the easiest to watch of all the krofft series because some of the other krofft series are hard to watch as adults.

Only the fembots from "The Bionic Woman" and those damn aliens with their ringing phones on "Sesame Street" creeped me out the way those Sleestacks did. Thank God I never knew about Doctor Who's Autons until I was an adult, or I would have had even more serious issues with creepy television creatures.

Not only did they scare me when I was a kid, I still think they are some of the creepiest monsters ever put on TV.

Those things scared the crap out of my siblings and me, back in the day. It was the sound more than anything. And maybe those huge, bulging eyes...

But definitely the sound!

We still make that sound to scare each other to this day. =) (We shudder then laugh.)

I've had the marathon on the Sci-Fi channel on all day. Brings back lots of forgotten childhood memories.

Both hands raised high ! - Except for friendly talking Sleestack - S'Latch and scientifically logical Sleestack - Enik . Thanks gf_bran for your excellent yet very honest subject post .

Heck, 30+ years later they STILL creep me out. It's that hissing noise that gets to me.

reply

Chaka still scares the piss out of me....

reply

Sleestacks RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, they used to scare me. Every time they appeared, I jumped.

As a kid, I attended a live show featuring many of the S&M Croft characters (and stars like Johnny Whitticker from "Sigmund & the Sea Monsters") and when the Sleestacks came out, every kid in the audience jumped.

reply

Just a quibble...is the plural of Sleestack, the Sleestack or Sleestacks?

reply

I'd say the plural is Sleestak....

And yes they scared the daylights out of me as a kid. Was always a great thrill when they appeared. Watching the show as an adult I see they're pretty goofy, but they still have a certain mesmerizing creepy quality. Now I know why I was so freaked out going to the dentist- having to sit there with "Mr. Thirsty" (that's what my dentist called that little drool suction thingy) in my mouth, as it made that creepy Sleestak sound! Ick!
