Sleestacks Poll

Okay, show of hands from Generation Xers and people from the generation of the 70s that watched this show. Who among you is willing to admit that the Sleestacks scared the living crap out of you?

*raises hand proudly*

(Jumps up and down waving both arms wildly)

Then I got scared of them all over again when I found out Bill Laimbeer was a sleestak...

reply

I'm raising both hands. Scared me every Saturday morning but still couldn't stop watching that show.

reply

they totally freaked me out.

reply

Oh, yeah, scared the livin' snot out of me!

I use to tell my sisters that I hated the show...just because they like it. *grin* But...I watched it right along with them.

My fifth grade math teacher looked like a Sleestak with a buzz cut.

The hissing sound they made scared me, but what did it most was the way they would stand in their pods or whatever they were, seemingly dormant. And then they would wake up and start chasing Will and Holly! I think that's why, many years later, the Borg fros Star Trek seemed to fascinate me.

Yes, yes, yes!!! (I'd raise more hands and arms if I had any extras!) They were absolutely scary as heck. But I still couldn't get enough of them, the show or other Sid & Marty Krofft fare. They were so ahead of their time. I wish someday to have all of the Krofft shows on DVD since you never see them, except once in a blue moon.

I think the Sleestak were scary for a number of reasons. Yeah, they were slow and couldn't shoot well but like a previous poster said, they didn't give up on their prey...they just kept on coming. The fact that they only spoke Sleestak (ssssrrrrrssssrrrrssssrrrr) was probably one of the scariest things about them. Just like the Creature from the Black Lagoon-couldn't speak to humans and you knew you were either going to die or be tortured and then die.

The Sleestak were probably even scarier due to me watching the CftBL movies but they would have been scary anyway, without any help!!

Someone mentioned the Borg from Star Trek because of the pods they used when inactive. That made me wonder if the Sleestak were an influence on James Cameron with the Terminator...scary, just keeps on coming after you...relentless in his/her pursuit.

Of course, that theme is popular in a lot of USA/TNT/Lifetime movies with the villain supposedly dead and then-BOOM! His hands around your throat again (although they haven't been making a lot of those movies recently). Oh yeah...the slasher movies Fri. the 13th, Elm Street, etc. And some of the newer ones. But those villains just aren't as scary, especially since you know what's going to happen when the villain is "dead."

Oh heck, I could go on but I would be here all night. Oh, one more-the Chuck Norris movie where the guy is genetically engineered and can't be destroyed, (kind of like Terminator, shame on you JC!), I can't recall the name right now but I don't think this guy could talk, or talk much, anyway...and he was really freakin' scary, too.

Anyway, I'll stop now, this was waaay too long at least 3 paragraphs ago!!!
