Sleestacks Poll

Okay, show of hands from Generation Xers and people from the generation of the 70s that watched this show. Who among you is willing to admit that the Sleestacks scared the living crap out of you?

Ooh! Ooh!

I always thought the Sleestacks sounded like the spit sink in a dentist office. I used to imitate it for my sisters - they thought it sounded pretty accurate.

The Sleestak scared me then just as they scare a new generation of kids who see them now on DVD.

I was watching one of the Land of the Lost episodes on DVD with my nephew and he was so scared of the Sleestak that he asked me to turn off the DVD. I always liked this show but I thought that the ZARN was even scarier than the Sleestak. I remember having nitemares about it because the Zarn was invisible and sounded like wind chimes.

Actually, I can't admit to being scared by them. They were certainly interesting, and I found the culture stuff they explored later to be kinda cool. But overall they were too slow and uncoordinated to be scary. however, I will totally admit to be scared by those goofy (at least they're goofy now) puppet-dinosaurs. They just kept eating and killing and fighting. It was quite realistic, and all, and that really was what scared me most.

I'm the same age as Holly, so I suppose I was old enough not to be 'scared' by them. While I loved the show without a doubt, I was really in love with Holly (just like a lot of you... come on, admit it). Still am... would really like to write and thank her, belatedly, for all the joy she and the cast brought to a young teen. Anyway, has anyone noticed how often those Sleestak suits and/or heads show up in other TV shows and movies? Only one I can think of at the moment is an episode of the New Twilight Zone, but I have seen them is quite a number of productions through the 1970s and 1980s. Kind of like the witch's hourglass from "Wizard of Oz" -- it can be seen in at least 13 other mainstream movies from 1942 through 1966. -Ron

I was 13, so they didn't scare me as much as younger viewers, but hey, this was before Star Wars, Jurrasic Park and for Saturday morning not bad at all. I don't think the producers would of gone for a buget of $2 million/episode, and you know what, I don't think they would have gotten much better for what was available at the time. Remember, no ILM or anything like that.
But I have to admit, I was a bit scared of 'em, too! Like everyone else the hissing was an added feature that put them over the top! True they were slow but they were so determined, and kinda creepy in that way too. You never new if one was around a corner. Did anyone ever get bored watching it? Nope. It held our collective (narrow) attention spans quite nicely!
Oh, and BTW, I agree with an earlier post, Charles Nelson Reilly's "Horatio J. Hoodoo" in "Lidsville" was very evil and creepy!
Grumpy scared the Hell out of me because I had a nightmare when I was about 7 or 8 about a TRex outside our apartment looking into our living room and staring at me, then trying to get in!!! YIKES!!

How about the "Invisable energy monster" from Jonny Quest? *shivers*

You better cut the pizza in four pieces 'cause I'm not hungry enough to eat six.

Sleestacks scared the crap out of me too. I got the same kind of scared from them as I did the Cylons from Battlestar Galactica.

Between Darth Vader and Sleestaks - I am not sure which one scared me more.
