So bleak, I couldn't sleep for days after I saw this once

This movie is a perfect example of why older movies, in spite of not having CGI and million dollar effects, were more impactful than what we have today.

If this had been shot today, there would've been so many obvious moments that you were watching a movie. Everything would've been brightly lit, the CGI would've looked fake and all the action telegraphed. The actors would've still looked like they came out of their limousines and just showed up on the set, with makeup and clothing intact.

There's a murky, depressing look to the lighting and sets that made the movie feel more realistic. As a kid I didn't pay it any mind (I just thought it was cool seeing the boat turn upside down), but when I saw it later, the gloomy lighting and grunginess of the actors had such impact that I couldn't sleep for days when I saw it the first time as an adult.

If this was shot today, yeah, it would be CGI, totally over the top action, with shakycam, and don't forget the preachy morality bullshit. Also, due to inclusivity quotas minorities would be overrepresented to the point of being jarring.

Things had so much more feeling back then.
Anything made today is so werid

Love that movie. Saw it when it came out on a huge screen.

And it was shot “today.” The remake was released in 2006: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409182/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Good cart but the CGI looked awful.
