It's odd. I looked up William O'Connell, the barber's film career and it turns out I am only familar with a handful of his movies. He seems like the kind of character actor that was in almost everything in the 70s. I guess he just made a very strong impression in the films I saw. He was the essential weak, sneaky weaselly guy for Westerns.
Some guys are just tailor made for certain roles. I remember guys doing tons of roles in old westerns as jerks - made careers out of being jerks. Hey, it pays!
O'Connell did great job as a sniveling weasel in this film - his nervousness looked genuine.
