Enzo's Reward

What do you think Enzo's reward was for helping Michael was? Enzo was there when the Captain punched Michael, so Tom probably saw him there, and Michael would have told him about what happened.

He makes a cameo in GFIII, and Michael greets him warmly (still baking too). Do you think they just said that the favor they did after the wedding for him is now paid/

Enzo didn't do much but crap his diapers, shake a lot, and reach into his jacket like he had a gun. That's it. Two minutes, over and out. To his credit, he showed up to visit Vito in the hospital and did not run when Michael said there was going to be trouble. Still, it was the least anyone would do to help a friend.

Vito got Enzo's citizenship fast-tracked when he was set for deportation, so if anything, Enzo still owed the Corleones.

There was a GFIII?

Michael told him to get out there because there would be trouble. Enzo insisted on staying, for his father, for his father.

Yes Enzo was freaking out after the hit men left because he was a civilian and he had never done anything like this before. Which should make the Corleone's even more grateful. Who cares who he was before, or how he reacted after? When the moment came, he did what was needed PERFECTLY. Just stand at the gate with your hand in your pocket and look tough. And it worked. Michael and Enzo created an illusion that the Don was well guarded by armed guards.

I didn't say the Corleones wouldn't be grateful, but OP wondered what kind of reward Enzo would get. The fact that the Corleones stopped his exportation years earlier would far outweigh what Enzo did. Maybe the Corleones called it even, but Enzo still got the better deal. A reward? I don't think so.

Keeping someone in the country vs. helping save a mans life at the risk of your own. I think Enzo more than covered his debt.

And I always felt the Corleone's more than covered there debts, good or bad. For example in GF II, the Don ask the landlord to keep the old widow in her apartment. He says he can't because he has new tenants who are paying more rent. The Don offers to cover the extra rent every six months. The landlord still refuses and ends up paying for it. instead getting an extra $5 a month, he loses $5 a month.

Or with the Band leader. $10,000 would have been an incredible amount of money back then, as well as being in the Don's good graces. Instead he got a gun to his head, a $1500 check, and I doubt he would ever go anywhere near the Don again.

Well, we're just going to have to have a difference of opinion on that. Literally anyone could have stood in that doorway and done just as little, even a nurse in a Fedora...

And keeping Enzo in the country involved Tom Hagen making 1 phone call. By far the easiest of the three favors that we heard be requested of the Don.

reply

The Don built the necessary power and influence over many years to pull off such an "easy" stunt.

Enzo crapped his pants.. XD

I think Enzo and his wife received a very thick envelope at their wedding and a lifetime of referral business from the Family and their associates. I also expect that any future favor he may have needed was granted without hesitation.
