Were turtlenecks ever cool?

I was never comfortable in one, so I didn't wear them.

reply

They were in vogue for a while--by the time I was buying my own clothes, they were on their way out, but I think I got a turtleneck sweater as a gift once, when I was a kid. I didn't like it.

reply

OK, what about silk scarves, were they ever cool? On a really cold day I'd wear a winter scarf. Any other kind of scarf, I don't think so.

reply

I wouldn't know, honestly. Don't they still sell a lot of those? Fashion often has little to do with function.

reply

The only time I came close to wearing a turtleneck was when I had to wear a dickey for 8th grade band.

reply

haha dickey, mock turtle neck... haha.

Yes, turtle necks were in style during many fashion eras, especially in cold climates.

As for silk scarves, heck yay! Noting says confidence like a silk scarf on a man... or rock star, whichever you prefer.

I love silk scarves.

reply

Were they ever NOT cool?

reply

I had several in the late '70s. They were great for skiing.

So it goes.

reply

Turtlenecks were way cool when worn by James Coburn in the In Like Flint movies, but that's because he was James Coburn! 

I do not have attention deficit disor...Ooh, look at the bunny! 

reply

Dick Cavett, Carl Sagan, and Banacek made them cool.

reply

And Steve McQueen, of course.

reply

Turtles kind of like them.
