Unrealistic By Today's Standards

Since this movie came out, we have action heroes- Dirty Harrys, Rambos, Action Jacksons etc. Heck, we've even had women action heroines. The Incident 2007 would feature the men banding together to stop these punks. Instead, the bad guys finally get stopped by the man who has only one good arm. The other soldier does nothing; the black man stands there and cries as if his balls were cut off. A movie today would focus on fighting back, not being victimized by out-of-control big city crime.

Half of the people on this board are talking about the film in terms of marketing. This was a tough sell in 1967 and I'm sure if it were released (or re-released) it would still be a tough sell. Let's give some directors the benefit of the doubt; I'm sure there are plenty of directors today who would not treat this screenplay like the next blockbuster.

But, UNREALISTIC? Not a chance OP. Human nature does not change. This movie is still as taut as they come. Maybe there would be a couple more cell phones nowadays, but it is still believable. Unrealistic? No. Maybe you were looking for the phrase 'outdated?' If so, I would still disagree with that.

I know who I am! I'm the dude playing a dude disguised as another dude!

Unrealistic by today's standards?? HA! You are the one quite unrealistic. "Superheroes" and "action" heroes like "Batman" and "Rambo" only exist in comic books and fictional movies. In real life, most of us miserable mortals do get scare with guys like these. And a cop acting like "Dirty Harry" or Steven Seagal will be in a real jam with his superiors. Not only will he be punished for acting against the rules, but also arrested and prosecuted by the law. Any doubts? Ask a criminal lawyer, or any college law student.

And what you fail to understand is that I said, when I made this point several years ago, "The Incident" is unrealistic for today's stands for a movie, not real life.

Another thing you're missing is that when movies are made, they often reflect the times they are made in. When this movie was made in 1967, it was a wake-up call to the realities our country was living in- war, assassination, and racial strife. Not to mention, big cities by that time were understood not to be safe places. But I don't think this movie as it is would do so well today- I believe people today often want to escape their realities... i.e. superhero crimefighters or stories where even average citizens stand up to crime- for example Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in "Walking Tall;" though I don't think I would call him average.

I simply don't care what you or anyone else says here. I've made my point clearly many times. I stand by my point and you can't change my mind. Especially not with your disrespectful tone and comments.

Sorry. But acting like "Winnie the Pooh", "Big Bird" of "Sesame Street" and/or "Barney the Dinosaur" is too dangerous in imbd forum. Here I am forced to act like some "Caligula", "Reinhard Heidrich" or "Al Capone" to get some respect. Sorry, man.

Thank you. Of course I accept your apology and I thank you for being big enough to give me one. In fact, this is the first time anyone has done it fir me on imdb.

You're cetainly right about the way people act on this board... except I would classify the people with the real courage to be those who can disagree without resorting to mean-spirited insults and immaturity. I really don't know what's wrong with some of these people who feel the need to be so obnoxious- especially over some movie or a TV program.

Got nothing else to do with their life? Oh boy!

LOL...this thread backs up what another poster wrote.

How many today can't appreciate a film like this.

Superheros...LOL.

The dumbing down continues...sigh.

The guy who just watched after his wife asked the two guys "to let them off" was worse than the black guy crying. He slapped his wife back after she slapped him but couldn't put his hands on atleast one of the criminals.

It's more realistic. I'd sure like to think I'd walk up to these punks like Mitchum or the Duke and slap the shit out of them, but who knows, I might just cower in the corner, hoping they wouldn't notice me.

realistic stuff has ben done so much they often feel like they need to go further than recent action scenes... into the impossible range
