Did they make later Spock too smart?

Spock in the TOS is very intelligent and capable, but there's tons of crap he don't know. Later on, he's just a walking encyclopedia about everything and anything. Hey, maybe his Genesis rebirth juiced his brain. Did they ever talk about anything like that? Is later Spock in fact significantly smarter than his younger self? Or is this just a bunch of made up crap? But I wonder if the story telling isn't hurt by Spock being a super genius know it all? Doesn't leave much room for good dialog.

I remember one episode in which Spock said "There is no survivors". I guess I can cut him some grammatical slack, though, since English isn't his first language.

No.

In a made-up universe where all the audience knows about the worlds they are visiting or the galaxy at large, it's massively useful to have a character who knows everything about everything. It's an exposition-heavy show, and better the explanations of what's where come from a character we like than the computer.
