The scene when the Daleks are threatening them and then it turns out their guns don't work is great. And Pertwee's response: "Well, well, well!"
shareBeen a while since I've seen this, think it might have been one of the few novelisations I read. Decent, not my favourite but decent.
I think I prefer day of the daleks which I watched the special edition for the first time recently. Always loved that episode, it's one of the first to really play around with the concept of time travel and has a very Moffat like feel to it.
The original is okay, but for some reason they got someone else to voice the daleks and it just sounds weird, un-dalek like. They got Nick Briggs who does the new who daleks to re-voice them in the special edition and added some effects and stuff that makes the story work better
That sounds pretty interesting.

I don't really think there is such a thing as a true fan really and for me a lot of Moffat's early stuff is good. I feel he works best when things are simple e.g. strip Blink down to the basics and you get a simple story of the doctor being stuck in the past and sending messages to someone in the future. I think he often tried to replicate his successes and when he tried to hard and went too complicated they didn't work as well

Agreed. While RTD may have had too much "epic-ness", the complexity of Moffat's stories went through the roof when he became showrunner. But at least he was better than the complete shit we have now, "Chinballs".
Well I don't watch it anymore to be honest and haven't since Capaldi left! I hated his era totally and wasn't that keen on Smith's either although I liked him! RTD played the gay agenda one two many times for my liking too!

See I liked the majority of his stuff on and off. I think series 5 personally is one of new who's best because it had the right balance. It introduced a great mystery, building it up and giving information, hints, clues etc. rather than doing what RTD often did e.g. introduce a word throughout and have to just explain it in the last 2 episodes. For example while the Silurian two parter in series 5 wasn't the best, I loved the moment when the doctor pulled something from the crack and we discover it's actually part of the front of the Tardis.
I do think he went OTT in series 6, trying to do too much. People often compared it to lost. I did kind of like the fact he killed the doctor off in the first episode though, even though we all knew it wouldn't be right. The whole reveal of River was anticlimactic to. I think part of the problem is when you string something out for a bit, and give people too much time to guess every possibility, whatever the reveal is is probably going to be anticlimactic.
I will also say Moffat's thing with "death" was annoying. The whole this time everybody lives thing worked when he did it for The Doctor Dances because it was a one off and played very nicely against 9s PTSD, seeing his joy and relief. However he overused it to the point death didn't really mean anything. I'm not saying the show needs to go all Game of Thrones, but consequences are often needed.
For me RTD was always good at the drama side of stuff and Moffat the SC-FI. Chibnall I think tries to do the drama stuff, but often tries to do them randomly, in a way that seems forced e.g. lets stop the show and have a moment. I did find he brought some adventure back in series 12 that seemed very lacking in series 11.
I finally have gotten around to looking at Day of the Daleks, and though I believe I did a complete classic watch through a few years ago, I don't remember this one at all! Thank you for the suggestion!
