Give me a break with the opening with the biblical quote and all the announcer talk of atonement and God's judgment and so on. If I wanted to watch the Ten Commandments I would have.

This is a George Pal film. Pal (György Pál Marczincsak) was a Hungarian immigrant and deeply religious. He included religious themes in many of his films. If you think When Worlds Collide is heavy handed, check out Conquest of Space. It's really over the top.
