Good Film

I just saw this for the first time. It's a pretty good film and moves right along. I only kept wondering why once they got the car they didn't just get out of that whole area...head to west coast or something, weird to hang around where he is wanted ESPECIALLY going back to the motel! They could have made out west and started a normal life....but the I guess we would have this movie would we?

they should have headed East.

He wasn't very bright. He escaped prison primarily to get a lawyer to clear his name of a bogus rap, but the first thing he did to earn lawyer money was participate in a string of felonies with the two psychos he escaped with. Even if he had got himself cleared of the original charge that put him in prison, he would have had a list of post-escape crimes to answer for, including involvement in a cop shooting and bank robbery. He also had significant impulse and anger control problems. I don't think he had the temperament or intelligence to succeed at a non-criminal life.

I agree. For a 1949 movie, it’s good. There were some weak spots. As you note- why did they hang around in that area where they were wanted? Go as far away as possible; I think they should’ve went to Mexico. The other issue is that the romance between Bowie and Keechie seemed rushed, especially the marriage part

The second act with the couple is kind of a drag. It goes from noir crime to romance.
