Lugosi's accent is really annoying!

I just watched his biography on GET-TV. They showed a public interview with him as he was being released from a drug re-hab program in the mid-1950's, for his addiction to pain killers. He spoke nearly unaccented English.
Irrespective of his accent, he was one of the first celebrities to go public with his dependency issues. A very courageous stance at the time!
I agree, he had a heavy accent when he first came to America but by the late 40's early 50's he spoke with only a hint of an accent. By then people just expected him to sound like he did in Dracula.

He was born in Romania so I doubt it. It probably became more Americanized over the years.

He was born in Lugos Hungary which is now part of Romania but not when he was born. That is where he took the name Lugosi from. His real name was Bela Blasko.
