Dislike The Wizard of Oz?

Am I the only person who dislikes Wizard of Oz? I'm 30 and I've tried watching it several times. It wasn't because as a child, it scared me. I just didn't like it. When I tell people that, they never understand it. It's not one part of the movie or scenes that I don't like, I just don't like watching it. Is there anyone else that feels the same?

reply

You may, in fact, be the only person who dislikes The Wizard of Oz! I know I've never talked to anyone who didn't love it!

I intend to live forever.
So far, so good.

reply

I hated it. It was crap.

reply

Then why are you wasting time on this board?

reply

I'm not wasting my time.

reply

"You may, in fact, be the only person who dislikes The Wizard of Oz!" That comment was a waste of time, as it is obviously wrong.

reply

When I dislike a movie, I don't waste my time on it on IMDb. I have a life.

Are you not capable of making a point without descending to childish name calling?

Because you hated it does not mean it was crap. Maybe you are crap are knowing what movies are good, or maybe there is no connections between people's personal experience of a movie and the box office success or failure of a movie.

Though there are some movies that we all hate, and they are crap, but there are movies I love that have terrible, or at least mediocre ratings. It's hard, but I don't take it seriously. ;-)

I'm just curious. You're right. I've never met anyone who feels the same as me.

reply

Don't feel bad, I think I'm the only person who doesn't like "It's a Wondeful Life". I find George Bailey selfish and whiny. I love James Stewart, I dislike George Bailey. You're aboslutely entitled to your opinion of any movie.

May I confess that I have never SEEN "It's a Wonderful Life?" There is no excuse, I know!

reply

I find George Bailey selfish

I'm not a big fan of It's A Wonderful Life but I don't see how anyone can say George was selfish. He had plans from when he was a child but repeatedly put them off because someone else needed him to.

Is very bad to steal Jobu's rum. Is very bad.

If you really loved Jimmy Stewart, you would call him by what his stage name was ... Jimmy.

reply

Why don't I believe you?

reply

You're never the only one. So many people ask "Am I the only one who......" as if they think that out of millions upon millions of people, they're the only one who has a particular opinion.

reply

I don't think I'm special and one of a million. I'm honestly curious if there's anyone else out there that feels the same.

reply

I hated the movie for many reasons but chiefly because I loved the book so much and I thought the changes from the book were either negative and unnecessary.

For a start the Dorothy in the movie was years older then the book Dorothy Secondly the book Dorothy was a good role model for little girls - she was a brave, resourceful little girl who saved others - whereas the movie Dorothy was a passive 'lady in distress' who was in need of rescuing. Thirdly, the movie ended with the whole thing only being a dream.

reply

Dorothy threatened to bite Miss Gulch, popped a Lion in the face, and told off the Wizard (before his true identity was revealed.) She was the one who thought to throw the bucket of water on the Scarecrow, thus saving him and vanquishing the witch. She was hardly passive, and did some rescuing, herself.

Everyone has a right to their opinion.
As for myself, I just turned 63 today and have been watching this movie since the very first time we got a TV, probably around 1958 or 59. When I got my first color TV along with a VCR in 1982, I bought the movie on VHS and seeing it in color brought tears to my eyes. I think for baby-boomers, it is part of their growing up from childhood into adulthood and passing it on to their children and grandchildren. It may not be some cinematic achievement compared to today's technology, but still today, when Judy Garland sings Over the Rainbow, I get chills and goosebumps.
When this movie was made, the world was in turmoil, people had gone through years of Depression, Hitler was just about to start World War 2 and there was a lot of uneasiness and fear. I think this movie, at the time, gave people some comfort, some laughter, and a final thought before they left the theater....There's No Place Like Home.
I personally regard this movie...even in 2016, as my favorite movie of all time.
But....that's just my opinion.

reply

Yep, you're the only one.

This is, without a doubt, the WORST movie ever made. The best being Schindler's List.

reply

OK.

reply

You could not pay me enough to watch Schindler’s list. I already know that the Holocaust was bad.
