Kevin Costner

I was listening to her podcast with Serena , and Serena stated Kevin Costner was from Compton. According to Wiki, prior to the mid 6O's, the area was racially diverse. It also had a sizable Japanese -American population. I never knew that. I looked up Kevin on the site as well, Compton is hailed as his birthplace.

Fascinating. I never would have guessed.

Wow that’s pretty crazy. Wonder what changed in the early 60s.

Probably "White flight". It happened a lot in the 50's and 60's. In Chicago two areas of Chicago which has large Hispanic populations, Pilsen and Humboldt Park were settled by Czech, German, Norweigan, and Polish immigrants. In addition, back in the 20's, the Marks Brothers once lived on the South Side of Chicago when it had a sizable Jewish population. One area on the South Side also had a small Japanese population around that time as well. Neighborhoods change. In fact, the author of The Wizard of Oz, L Frank Baum wrote the classic while living in Humboldt Park.

In addition, many gospel churches on the West and South Sides were originally synagogues. In fact, the area I live in on the North Side, Argyle St, now known as " Little Southeast Asia", once had a vibrant Jewish community, in fact a few years ago, a former synagogue was converted into condos.
