If just look at Gretzky's stats compared to all the players around him before him and after him; he just doesn't hold the records, he blows them out of the water. No one in any sport, Not Montana, not MJ, not anyone just utterly and completely dominated like Gretzky did. Just look at the all time points totals; the second closest to him is almost 1000 points behind, Jaramir Jagr, and Jagr played almost 300 more games than Gretzky. That is more points than in most players careers, and it is the distance to the number 2 spot. That is just mind numbing. He averaged about 2 points a game for his ENTIRE CAREER. While it is true that Lemiux got injured and missed out on a large majority of games; If you just look Lemiux's points per game he still would have behind Gretzky by about 300 to 400 points. Lemiux I think would be the number Goal scorer but no one is ever touching that 1963 assist number.

There is a reason they call him "The Great One".

YEAH...THAT IS TRUE...I WAS A KID AND ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WAS WEIRD THAT WE HAD THE GREAT ONE AND NO CHAMPIONSHIPS...I WASN;T A HOCKEY FAN...BUT AS A DIEHARD LAKER FAN...YOU CAN'T HELP BUT FOLLOW THE OTHER LOCAL TEAMS.
