The Hertz commercials? I doubt that.

I know this is kind of meant as a "joke post," but I'm so glad you made this, because I've actually given a lot of thought to this, after hearing the news of Simpson's death this past week:

1) Football player (American): He was a great one...in his book "You Win With People," Woody Hayes devoted quite a few pages to the 1969 Rose Bowl, where OSU defeated USC. After the game, Hayes wrote that Simpson came to the OSU locker room after the game and told them that was the best defense he had ever played against...classy move from a player in defeat.
2) Actor/announcer...all of it. The "Naked Gun" movies and the "Hertz commercials." He was the primary sideline reporter for NBC in their NFL games. He was a very popular, well-liked figure in the public eye.

But, ultimately, he'll be remembered for the murders and the trial that followed them. Just to be clear, I'm no "expert" on Simpson or American society and this is all just my opinion. I was born in 1969, so I was alive when Watergate happened, when the end of the Vietnam War happened, etc. I remember the Berlin Wall falling and the breaking up of the USSR. And, I obviously remember 9/11. I put the Simpson events right up there with all the memorable (impactful) events that have happened during my lifetime. As an American, I feel like it really made such a huge impact on our society (For example, I think it forever changed journalism and how news was presented to the American people...it wasn't enough to be the "lead story" on the nightly news...it was about getting that information out first, ASAP..."breaking news," in other words). It's where I first heard the name "Kardashian." So on and so forth. Unfortunately, I'm kind of pressed for time right now, so I can't write more at this time...but the "Simpson events" (the murders, the Ford Bronco chase, the trial...all of it) really made a lasting impression on American society.
