How Reagan Caused the Student Debt Crisis

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxwWP8YcBxA

There was a time in the United States when public university was virtually tuition free. Where the federal and state governments funded public universities and considered accessible higher education to be a state asset. But like many other things in the United States, a major political shift changed that dramatically. And if I’ve learned anything in my time as a public policy researcher, if something in America is going really wrong, it’s always a safe bet to blame Ronald Reagan.

As part of a raft of budget cuts he started as governor and continued as president, Reagan gutted the public university system in the United States, all because he disagreed with the aims of student protestors and felt that students who paid their own way would be more likely to fall in line.

The student debt crisis was brought on by students willingly taking on outrageous amounts of debt to go to universities and colleges who now don't want to be grownups and pay off their debts.

It's odd that they think these 18-year-olds are victims when they willingly chose to take on this debt, but that teens and pre-teens can willingly choose to follow the trend and become the opposite sex.

You also ought to point out that professors make outrageous salaries for relatively little work. It's worse in private universities with the more prestigious degrees. Sen. Warren made six figures for ONE CLASS??? Good grief!

Back in the 1950s, you didn’t need college degree. You could graduate high school and get a job that paid enough for you to get married, buy a house, buy a car, and have children

Blame the employers who started asking for college degrees just to get a job as a secretary or clerk
