Reading his book...

Its actually very interesting book. Like I go straight to the 80-th and 90-th Hollywood scene. I recommend. He keeps name checking other actors.

I didnt know he was good friends with Hank Azaria and Craig Bierko. And that poor Craig almost landed Chandler role. I actually know Craig Bierko as an acror and remember him back from that movie with Genna Davies and Sam Jackson "The Long Kiss Goodnight". I liked that movie while a was a kid. He was hot. And then he was in "The Thirteenth Floorr". Very good and underrated sci-fi movie. And never forget Scary Movie 4. He was hilarious in that. And he was in tv show UnREAL that I watched.

Matthew Perry talks so much about addiction and how he keeps relapsing. And the reason of that is (I think) that he never wants to really quit it. He goes to rehab because he feels sick and bad. Then gets sober for few months or 2 years. Then finds a reason to starts using again. Its amazing how person can relapse so many times.

BIERKO WAS A DECENT ACTOR...I AM MOST AWARE OF HIM FROM SOUR GRAPES...THE LARRY DAVID MOVIE...HE WAS VERY CLOSE TO THAT FRIENDS ROLE BEFORE HE WASN'T...AND THEN HIS CAREER KIND OF VANISHED. NOEMOJI

I looked his wiki page and he was actually working non-stop all these years.

Movies, TV. 2 episodes here, 8 episodes there. In famous tv shows. He is working actor, not like doing one role in 5 years. But he never quite got famous. And even lead role in "The Thirteenth Floor" didnt help. And not even Scary Movie 4 in 2006 where he was hilarious. His face in not that memorable for people to remember him. Despite being pretty and having Leading Man looks.

I get that addiction is a disease but does Perry ever figure out what keeps driving him to relapse? Is he bipolar or clinically depressed? I mean, sure drugs make you feel better but when you are famous, decent looking and making tens of millions of dollars - how bad can your life be?

reply

Who knows. Probably no willpower. He simply didnt want to put effort to stop. Person really needs to have desire.

He stopped occasionally because of he felt really bad psychically. Then start using again after some time.

I doubt it was his lack of willpower. Addiction is terrible. Matthew Perry started drinking, and loving drinking, when he was pretty young. Later, he got addicted to much more powerful drugs. But he was still in his 20's. He started young, he hit the drinking and drugs hard. So hard it almost killed him several times. Some people's brains are wired to where they can't stop, no matter how hard they try, they just can't stop.
