Biggest Earning Hollywood Star For 2023 By Some Distance

I hope the so called actor Tom Hanks burns with envy when he reads of who the real daddy, the head honcho, the big cheese of the movie business really is.

Ironically I'd bet Mr Hanks would happily dine with probably each and every other person on that list but would be dismissive of Sandler.

Further proof - if it was needed - of the fake Hollywood "royalty" status Hanks seems to believe he is worthy of.

I can't recall meeting anyone who didn't at least appreciate Tom Hanks' overall body of work. I think he's terrific and most people seem to as well. What is it about Hanks' work that you don't care for?

reply

Personally, I refuse to sanction the legitimacy of Tom Hanks as an actor.

I believe him to be an utter fraud and saw straight through his shitty low brow crappy comedies like Splash, Big, Turner & Hooch reinvention into "real" actor status by hoodwinking idiotic audiences with sentimentality as a substitution for acting ability in things like Sleepless In Seattle - boo hoo, his wife is dead; Philadelphia - boo hoo, Hanks has aids; and Saving Private Ryan - boo hoo, lots of people are dead!!

And that's before even mentioning the absolute pinnacle of attempted sentimentality baitery - Playing the lovable retard (apologies, not sure if that's the correct word any more? Maybe mentally challenged?) in Forest Grump...

The guy is an absolute fraud with a career built on falsehood. Personally, I realised this half way through Saving Private Ryan when he started giving that absolute garbage Mama's Apple Pie speech about life back home. I simply could not take it anymore and got up there and then, leaving the cinema and resolving never to watch another Tom Hanks "performance" (because that's certainly what he gives!) ever again.

That I have stuck too. My favourite recent memory of Hanks was when Garvais was giving that speech at the golden globes (I think?) knocking the Hollywood glitterati and it cut to Hanks - sat there with his portly neck, stuffed into place with a bow tie - pretending it's all a big, great, real thing, the acting, and he's deservedly sat at the head table. Anyway, Gervais says something mocking about them just coming up, picking up their awards and F'ing off, and the camera cuts to Hanks who was completely pissed off! 😂 It was brilliant. Completely showed the real Hanks for what he's worth...

Opinions vary, I suppose we won't agree on this matter but your detailed response is appreciated.
I DO agree that Turner And Hooch was not good btw.

reply

Indeed - No worries if you or anyone else enjoy Hanks, each to their own...

I guess I only mentioned him here as I suppose he didn't really start out so differently from Sandler, yet would imagine himself as superior.

Anyway, I've seen that both of them appear on the same episode of this Actors Round table thing, so I may check that out and see if it provides any evidence of Hanks really behaving in such a manner...

Show me on the doll where Tom Hanks touched you.

reply

Well, unlike so many others, it where he didn't touch me, i.e. my heart, which is the real problem for me!

This is hardly shocking. We're a society that's also propelled Logan Paul and The Kardashian Sisters to fame. Sandler is a modern day Samuel Beckett by comparison

reply

Ugh, can't stand that horrid Logan Paul and those awful Kardashians. I will never understand why people like that become idolized.

I have to admit though, I really enjoy Adam Sandler. I know his comedy movies are very, very hit and miss but I have enjoyed quite a few of them. His dramatic roles are so much better.

I don't know, maybe it's because I tend to root for the underdog 😊
