Ending show in 2022; Blames toxicity as misogynistic

Ellen DeGeneres is elaborating on the controversy surrounding allegations of a toxic workplace at her daytime talk show, a day after she announced "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" would end in 2022 after 19 seasons.

In an interview on the "Today" show Thursday, the comedian said that while she took the complaints seriously, the reactions felt more targeted because of her gender, in an apparent reference to media coverage last summer.

"I have to say, if nobody else is saying it, it was really interesting because I'm a woman and it did feel very misogynistic," the 63-year-old told Savannah Guthrie in a segment taped in the "Ellen" studio Wednesday.

"I thought something was going on with that, because it was too orchestrated, it was too coordinated. And, you know, people get picked on but for four months straight for me, and then for me to read in the press about a toxic work environment, when all I've ever heard from every guest that comes on the show is what a happy atmosphere this is, and how, what a happy place it is."


Of course the working class claims of being exploited along with harassment are invalid because the boss is a woman! Why couldn't I figure that out?
