Let's bring the truth of his quote to light. "I’ve turned down a lot of offers to do documentaries before. But I don’t have long to live. Whether I keel over as I’m speaking to you or 10 years from now, my time is limited, so that’s very much a factor. I’ve got grandchildren. This documentary is a way of reaching out after I die."

He doesn't have any kind of terminal diagnosis that we don't all have; he's a live. He just realizes his time's limited and felt the need to leave a bit more of a mark. Big whoop.

It's kind of weird, getting older and realizing you're probably counting down the last couple of decades, then the last decade, then just a few years. You try not to think about it. It's something I never imagined when I was younger.

It doesn't bother me that much. I've accepted that my best years are long behind me. Aside from my mother still being alive I don't have any concerns about anything I'll leave behind when I die.

''The sad thing is that the older a person gets the wiser they become and then they die with all that knowledge. And it’s gone. It’s not like I’m going to take my ideas or my clothing with me.''

That always seems evolutionarily a very weird thing. Once an organism has a memory mechanism, and the faculties to analyze, summarize and learn from its experience ... it would seem that time should be their friend, not killing them.

Shatner is not probably not going to die soon. That seems like a PR stunt to get attention for whatever he is doing. I am surprised that he lived through going into space - that is a lot of pressure on the body. But, he is a strong guy.

As far as survival of the species, evolution really only accounts for adaptability up through your breeding years. After that whatever fortunes/misfortunes of genetics you carry around with you means nothing to the perpetuation of the race.

shatner on being abit misquoted:

Reports of my pending demise have been greatly exaggerated (by the clickbait press😤.) All I meant was that I’m not going to live forever (though I am going to make a valiant attempt!) & the documentary I did is for future generations & descendants to know a bit about me.
