OF THE ONES I HAVE SEEN...

Brie Larson, Room

Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine

Julianne Moore, Still Alice

Frances McDormand, Nomadland

Jennifer Lawrence, Silver Linings Playbook

Emma Stone, La La Land

hmmm. Only seen half of those and not sure I want to watch another two of them. But I'm thinking the only one that has lasting appeal is La La Land - which I guess is not unusual for Oscar winning films.

reply

THATS THE WORST ONE.🤔

reply

But the most enjoyable. It's the the only one I'll stick in the DVD drive and watch now and again just because I felt like it. In fact I'd watch it again just for the brightness of the start and the might-have-been montage at the end.

Stone nailed the 'Audition' number but beyond that highlight I much preferred Huppert and Portman that year. Nothing against Stone but I like her two other nominated performances more than her winning one.

I'd certainly place Streep's waxworks Thatcher dead last. She waited all of those years for a third win and this is the one for which they choose to enshrine her.

I had no idea Brie Larson had won an Oscar!

I have seen La La Land and Silver Lining Playbook.

My rankings:-
1. Emma Stone
2. Jennifer Lawrence

reply

Yes, she won for Room. Excellent film, good performance but Jacob Tremblay had the larger and more difficult role and imo should have been the award-winner from that movie.

I must get around to seeing Room.

Unfortunately I was prejudiced against it at the time as for some inexplicable reason our local cinema decided to put the trailer on before The Force Awakens!

There were all these kids there in their Star Wars costumes all excited and then this trailer comes on about a kid getting held captive 😂. Couldn't believe it...
