A divorce and bad film picks happened.

Hopefully him being in a show like The Affair can warrant the start of a comeback (yes ChamCham, I said Brendan needs a comeback, hope I don't get your panties in a bunch from that comment)

Regardless though, it's not a super bad fall from grace like most former A-listers. At least he's not pulling a Nicolas Cage or a John Cusack type move and appearing in a bunch of straight to video garbage.

I'm sure Brendan is going to make a return to the spotlight at some point given him changing his talent agency recently. If Cuba Gooding Jr., Winona Ryder, and more recently Mel Gibson can do it, so can Brendan.

reply

Cage, yes, but John Cusack has never been in a bad movie, or bad in a movie.

Hmm. How did I miss this one ? Newsflash !!!! TheChamCham doesn't wear "panties". Boxers all the way, baby !
I'm not certain what Miss Ryder, Mr. Gooding, or Mr. Gibson have in common with Brendan though.

In the late 90s till early 00s he was an A-lister for a short period of time. I mean just George Of The Jungle, Mummy and Mummy Returns brought in more than 1 billion $ at the Box Office. But he also had lots of box office bombs :O

(I have been instructed to write the following sentences.)

Charisma has nothing to do with a person's physical appearance.
There are many beautiful women and handsome men who have no charisma at all. It comes from inside. It comes from G_d.

 (I would never doubt her. She's usually right.)

The truth doesn't cost anything, but a lie could cost you everything.

"It comes from G_d."

G_d? So, the Lord chastiseth he who useth vowels?

reply

Actually, no, it doesn't. Jack Nicholson is someone who comes to mind. Man's ugly as sin, but could charm the panties off an old school nun.

reply

Stop! Young Jack Nicholson was not ugly!

A combination of bad luck and bad film picks. His most acclaimed acting work (Gods and Monsters, The Quiet American) never gained traction with the general public, and starring in a series of misconceived comedies meant that he eventually became associated with poor quality both in the minds of the public and studios. Monkeybone losing about $67million in particular would have been a career-killer for a less famous actor, as it was for his co-star Bridget Fonda. He compounded that by further bad choices in the following years - he had another hit with the mediocre Journey to the Centre of the Earth, but when they made a sequel he held out for the original director and got replaced by Dwayne Johnson. Starring in Furry Vengeance was the final straw for his B-list leading man status.

The divorce hurt his bank balance but not necessarily his career, but the back injury means he can't do action or slapstick anymore.

I don't think his fall has been as great as some actors. He was only ever quite low A-list, probably with The Mummy putting him on it and Monkeybone taking him off it a couple of years later, and even now he's a recognisable name and still turns in quality performances. I think he'll make a comeback at some point with a dramatic role that makes full use of his acting ability and imposing stature. He should play a few more villains.

I've given up trying to set the record straight to people who would rather keep repeating untruths they have heard from all of those so-called (nameless and faceless) "journalists" on YouTube, etc.

I'm simply going to have a good laugh. 
