I was trying to remember his filmography, and other than Spartacus, the movies that first came to mind were your #15 and #20. I'm sure I've seen some of the others, but not many are very vivid in my mind. Can't say I care for The Vikings much, the whole production seems kind of hammy, and Kirk sure could chew scenery. But there looks like interesting, serious titles in here I'd like to get more familiar with.

Your number 12 is my favourite. 'Lust For Life.' He looks so much like one of the Vincent Van Gogh self portraits. Happy 102nd to him.

How could you leave off In Harm's Way from the list? Kirk is very convincing as a naval officer who rapes a very young nurse in the film. A good performance that he drew on his own experience for.

reply

Hey Sandoz....the original list only looked at his Top 20....that was his Top 20 when looking at a combination of box office, reviews and awards. In Harm's Way just missed the Top 20...as it came in 21st place. Here are all the Kirk pages we have ranked.

Diamonds was number 71....think I ran into a Movie Chat text limit so I could not include the last movie.

reply

Hard for me to see why Paths of Glory and Man Without a Star would rank so poorly as compared to The Vikings, but any list of his films is welcome. There are a lot I haven't seen.

reply

Hey snepts....when you sort my Kirk Douglas table by reviews...Paths of Glory jumps up to being his second best movie only behind Spartacus. Man Without A Star did not fare as well when looking at the review %....but still got a good rating of 67%. The Vikings was one of his biggest box office hits...it was 3rd....only behind Spartacus and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. Thanks for the feedback.
