What other shows...

Other than Mr. Robot, are as good as this?

The Leftovers, while not as mind-bending is a good wtf show, but it runs at a very slow pace compared to those two.

Any other recommendations?

reply

Looking for ones currently on? Do you want them to be just as what the fuck-y? Or just looking for a quality drama?

reply

Past shows accepted. Both would be ok but wtf preferred as they are a bit rarer than a good quality drama.

reply

Hmm, well the first one other than Mr. Robot I always recommend people is Hannibal. It falls in the same league as Mr. Robot and Legion because of its gorgeous cinematography and minds fucks. It's not quite as heavy in the literal ambiguity of time, its perception gray areas come more in the relationships between the characters.

For something that may be more on along the lines of Legion, perhaps Preacher? It's from a comic book as well so has that sort of feel to it and deals with otherworldly things as well so gives ya lots of, "say what," sort of moments.

Black Mirror is also another good one that will hurt your head a bit, now it is bleak, but super well done and there are a few expertly laid out twists in some of the episodes.

reply

I have yet to finish the last few episodes of Hannibal so thanks for that reminder.

Preacher is awesome - loved it.

Seen all the Black Mirrors and can't wait for the next season, whenever that may be.

reply

I have a feeling we've done this before, hahaha. I remember going through a bunch of shows with someone who wanted recommendations and they had seen them all already. Was that you? Or am I just having deja vu?

Oh shit, am I in Clockworks?! Sorry, can't help the chance at a reference....πŸ˜‹

reply

I don't remember making a thread about other shows but maybe I replied on one before.

Did you mean this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhP3ZPzQ6Io

reply

Oh okay, it probably was someone else then. I don't think it was on the this board either.
And I was just making a Legion reference with the whole Clockworks thing, I had never seen that, interesting!

I'm trying to think of the other shows that have made me stand up and say, "what the fuuuuuck?!" Hmmm...there are tons of other shows I watch, but they fall more into traditional drama, even though they certainly have their moments.

reply

I recently watched Patriot and thought it was exelent. I wouldn't say that it's wtf exactly, but it goes against the standard of its genre as well. Though it has some moments of... weirdness, I guess (I can't find my words today).

I think I've mentioned before Life on Mars (UK) and Ashes to Ashes. They're more cop shows, but they have moments of questioning reality and all that. The main characters are in accidents and wake up in the past, so there's a lot of "what's happening, where am I'. I'd recomment watching both, sinse Ashes to Ashes really closes the whole mystery that's started in Life on Mars.

Utopia. Very stylized. Massive conspiracy and a bunch of people caught in the midst of it.

Sense8 maybe? It has some craziness to it.

Edit: The French show Les Revenants. It's more similar to The Leftovers I feel. A bunch of people return from the dead, and we follow them around. There's a mystery, why they returned and why Them and all that. And it explors the effects on the community and their loved ones.

I'm sure there are more, so I'll add to this if something comes to mind.

reply

The Returned, yessss, so good. That's a nice suggestion, especially in terms of that eerie atmosphere. I agree it would be a good companion piece to The Leftovers, right on. Man, why do I always forget that one? haha

reply

I forgot it too, and came back quickly to add it :D It's definately very atmospheric and takes its time developing the story.

reply

αΊ€ill look out for The Patriot. Haven't heard of that one before.

All the other shows I have seen and loved, especially Utopia.

Didn't see the French version but watched The Returned. It didn't get renewed for another season.

reply

The original French version had three seasons and is worth the watch, in my opinion! I never saw the American one though.

reply

I shall add it to my 'to watch' list if it comes with subs.

reply

It's difficult to find new things when you're an avid viewer :D

I highly recommend Patriot. It think it's on par with Legion in terms of quality and imagination, but still it's different when it comes to the story and mood.

The French version only had two seasons. I haven't seen the remake.

One other that came to mind is Wilfred. With the mental illness angle and the imaginary friend that gets you in trouble.

reply

Oh crap, you're right it was only two seasons, haha, perhaps a bit of wishful thinking on my part!
And yes, I feel your guy's struggle of finding things to watch when you already watch SO much, tv is just too damn good these days....

reply

Yes, it's hard trying to find new (or old) good shows that you haven't seen or heard of.

Doesn't do any harm to keep asking on the off-chance that you find something good. :)

I will definitely watch Patriot.

reply

Ash vs Evil Dead is wtfish. Pushing Daisies too.

reply

Liked the Evil dead but couldn't really get into Ash vs Evil Dead.

Will look into Pushing Daisies.

reply

If I remember correctly the cinematographer on Legion is the same one that worked on Pushing Daisies...so if the style seems similar that's why!

I'm still bummed that show didn't last.

reply

Well, I showed this series to my little sister and she said it has "Too much yellow". Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

reply

Yes! Pushing Daisies. In fact any Bryan Fuller created show: Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, Hannibal (which was mentioned). But the guy has the worst luck when it comes to his shows being canceled.

reply

Dude is very solid when it comes to making great shows. Good for him, a dude has a fan.

reply

Mina,
Pushing Daisies and Dead Like Me: YES!

I watched Dead Like Me on Netflix, and am now watching Season One of Pushing Daisies on DVDs from Netflix. These are two great shows! I didn't know the same guy, Bryan Fuller, did both. No wonder Daisies reminded me of Dead. Daisies is a mash up of Dead Like Me, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (the narration), and Dr. Suess. I love it!

And after I finish Daisies, Wonderfalls is next on my list. Bryan is a genius imho. Haven't seen Hannibal yet.

😎

reply

I'm glad you're enjoying Pushing Daisies. It's one of my favourites (and Lee Pace being as handsome as ever doesn't hurt either). Wonderfalls is, well, wonderful lol After I mentioned it here I went on Youtube and it turns out it's on there. So I ended up watching a bunch of episodes. I'd say there are some parallels between it and Legion.

And it turns out Bryan Fuller has another show due to premier in April (American Gods). So, something to look forward to, now that Legion's ending.

Now I'm getting off of here, before I spoil myself the finale.

reply

Yes I am, and yes Lee Pace is handsome. Is it just me, or does he seem like a cross between Robert Downey Jr
and Jon Cusak, not just in looks but also in his mannerisms and voice?

Thanks for the heads up on American Gods.

😎

reply

Have you seen him in The Fall?

reply

Oh that was Lee Pace? Wow, you're right! I loved that movie. Thanks, I love connecting the dots in an actor's career.

😎

reply

Hmm... I've never seen that resemblense. Maybe a bit of Jon Cusak in there now that you've mentioned it. But Cusak himself has started to morph into Nick Cage as his gotten older lol

reply

Nick Cage?

😎

reply

Nicolas Cage. They've started to look very similar as they've aged (Nicolas Cage and Jon Cusak I mean).

reply

Mmmmm. Never thought of that, but yeah kinda sorta.

😎

reply

The Prisoner. British show from the 60's.

reply

The Prisoner? Huh?

😎

reply

Last night's episode of legion reminded me of The Prisoner at some moments.

reply

Oh okay. Wow, that's so long ago I don't remember much about it. Of course I didn't watch it much.
