Leaving Food Out Overnight

I'll take out what I think I'm going to eat, so it dethaws, etc... and too many times I'm so tired (and full) that I just go right to bed. Then when I wake up and go into the kitchen, I see food left out.. Especially in the microwave. I hate throwing food away for so many reasons, and almost thought of throwing it back into the freezer, which I've done before, and haven't had food poisoning yet.

If it smells ok I'm sure it is fine. I remember observing at a pizza place that certain slices sat on display a long time. Maybe all day until they sold, ever since then I know most mood takes quite a while to go bad. Raw fish is one that you have to be careful about.

I got food poisoning once from ordering Mexican where they got the meat from a display case out front. It's like having a fist rammed down your gut. Never again.

I'm sure you've seen at 7-11 they'll have hot dogs and pizza sitting in a display case. Who knows how long it's been there?

Sure there is a difference between raw vs cooked, but when I go to the supermarket the meat dept. has raw meat and fish on display (refrigerated case, fish on ice) for a few days. We've all see this. I've never had a problem.

reply

Oh, nothing wrong with raw meat. I'm talking about cooked food on display. It would be fine if it's freshly cooked. But you never know.

Such as a buffet. I think there are fairly strict rules about this issued by local or State health departments. But whether they are complied with...always use your eyes and nose and common sense.
