Do you play a musical instrument? 🎵

I don't. 🎵

No, I want to. I own a couple. Lack of talent and dedication sabotaged me.

I am trying it with the 🎸 for years now.

I played beginner-level guitar, recorder, flute, keyboard, harmonica and Jaws harp at one time. When I have more freetime, I want to return to the keyboard and recorder.

NOT ANYMORE...ONCE UPON A TIME I PLAYED THE TRUMPET...IF YOU HANDED ME A TRUMPET NOW...I WOULD JUST HIT YOU WITH IT.

I'm a monster drummer, I can fill in basic bass guitar, and I play a handful of simple keyboard tunes. Just enough to impress people at a party. Currently attempting to learn how to play guitar but my big sausage fingers don't find the strings so good.

I've been a semi-professional musician for over thirty years...Guitar and vocals when I play out (solo and in bands,) but for fun in home recordings I like to say I can play anything you don't have to blow!

Awesome! What kind of music do you play when you play out? I would love to do what you do, but my singing voice is just horrible. I have a lot of respect for performing musicians...it takes some guts to get on stage and play in front of people!

My bands in the past have been very eclectic in terms of musical styles, mostly Rock based with forays into Reggae, Funk, Jazz, Pop and Bluegrass(both covers and originals) and my solo acoustic set is equally varied: I use a looper so I can rip the occasional solo and a harmonizer pedal to fatten up the vocals(pretty key on stuff like bluegrass!) My current outfit is kind of a funky soul band with a horn section playing covers ranging from Motown to Disco through the 80s and right up to the present(I'm also the lead guitarist which is a new role for me...) It's been a lot of fun through the years playing out all over the northeast, and I always try to play the best possible show I can no matter the size of the audience (which has ranged from just a handful of bar staff to a festival crowd of over 8000!)

That is awesome! I really like the variety!

I've never used a looper myself, but I've seen certain guitarists use them and it seems like such a neat tool to use live (I saw a YouTube video a few years back of KT Tunstall using a looper to play her song "Black Horse And The Cherry Tree" live...it was really neat to see her play each part separately and then play/sing along with the looped parts...she was a "one-person band!").

Your current band sounds awesome also, especially the horn section. Do you have a preference to playing in a band vs solo? On one hand, you have the band to "fall back on" when you play with a band. On the flip side, you don't have to worry about dealing with other egos when it's just you! 😃

Again, that sounds awesome and thanks for sharing! I haven't done it nearly as much as you have, but there aren't many better feelings than getting applauded after a performance. I have a lot of respect for what you're doing! Hope it continues to go well for you!

Yeah, I'd always wanted to play in a band with horns ever since seeing the movie "The Commitments"🎷 I'd say I prefer a band situation, but it's tough to tell because my solo career is a pretty recent thing, with only a few dozen gigs over the last ten years or so as opposed to hundreds with various bands over the years...Thanks for the encouragement and ROCK ON!🤘
