Excellent news. Hopefully they got the guy. These sorts don’t just stop, if it’s him they’ll track his travels over the last 10-15 years to see if he connects to any other violent crimes.

reply

Suspect’s name is Rex Heuermann, 59 year old owner of a Manhattan architecture company…which is weird because his house looks like shit!

reply

If he's a demented killer, the state of his home seems appropriate.

reply

If he’s the guy it’s just odd that, as a secretive killer and successful 5th Ave. architect he’d allow his home to stick out like a sore thumb. You’d think these types would want to blend into the background but as you say, a guy like the killer would certainly be demented.

reply

Mental illness might be a factor.

reply

Evidentially.

reply

lmfao, reminds me of that Sopranos episode (best one called Pine Barrens) where there is a miscommunication over the phone.

Tony - "The guy was part of the interior ministry, he killed 16 Chechens!!"

Paully - "GTFOH, this guy was an interior decorator, he killed 16 Czechoslovakians!!"

Chris - "His house looked like shit"

😂

reply

Ahh, great episode😀

Oh shit!! The Long Island Serial Killer!

I was recently reading up on the case again, many people thought all hope was lost due to the alleged police corruption.

This is the biggest true crime serial killer capture since Joseph James DeAngelo (EAR/ONS/GSK).

If they ever find out who the Zodiac is I'll hit the ceiling.

reply

GSK was an amazing arrest. I think familial DNA or GEDMatch was the noose for him. These investigators and forensic science people are pretty amazing!

I think Zodiac is long gone. Maybe he died in jail for some other crimes, got killed in an auto wreck or got terminal cancer..? I don’t think that case will ever be solved.

reply

Yeah the GSK case was insane and has served as a template going forward. A lot of older cases are now getting solved through the same methods (using DNA from cases on ancestry sites).

I don't think Zodiac will be solved either, but it's one that's right on the cusp of being solvable, older cases like the Black Dahlia murder and Jack the Ripper are lost causes, no one will ever know.

The possibility of DNA from the stamps being matched with familial DNA is what gives me some hope. I know they've tried several times to extract usable DNA from them.

I also hope they have some evidence we're not aware of, like in most active cases. They may have something stronger DNA wise that just needs to hit a match on those ancestry sites.

An interview from a year ago with the arrested suspect.

Saw someone say he reminds them of Donald Trump. I thought so too. The big heavy physique, NE USA accent and the talking with the hands.

reply

there is a resemblance.

reply

You know what, not being political at all here but he does have a ‘Trumpish’ build and demeanor. Wow.

Strange how he’s sort of charming and affable in the office but barely anybody on his block ever saw the guy or chatted with him.

The dudes pornography search history is on page 18. Vile bastard!

Page 19 shows he was actively reading up on the police investigations into the LISK case, over 200 searches. (March 2022-June 2023)

He's been active on Tinder and has still been visiting prostitutes till this day. I wonder if there are many more who he killed who we don't know about yet.

They have DNA evidence against him. His wifes hair was found on several of the victims.

In or about July 2022, Forensic Laboratory #1 was able to determine that each of the aforementioned Female Hairs Recovered on the Three Victims each belonged to a female individual in mitochondrial haplogroup K1c2 and that this female was not any of the victims. On or about July 21, 2022, an undercover SCPD Detective recovered eleven (11) bottles from a trash receptacle that had been left out for collection in front of the residence of Defendant Rex A. Heuermann. The Suffolk County Crime Laboratory took swabs of said bottles, which were subsequently sent to Forensic Laboratory #1 for DNA profiling.

Based on these new submissions, on or about February 24, 2023, Forensic Laboratory #1 was able to conclude that one of the DNA profiles generated from the aforementioned bottles taken from Defendant Heuermann’s residence indicated a female individual belonging to mitochondrial haplogroup K1c2 (which is the same mitochondrial haplogroup as the Female Hairs Recovered from the Three Victims). This profile was then compared against the previously-tested female hair sample recovered on the remains of Ms. Megan Waterman, which indicated that the two “belong to the same individual or someone closely related.” Based upon the investigation and evidence recovered to date, that female is believed to be the wife of Defendant Heuermann.

They also found one of his hairs on one of the victims and matched it to DNA they attained from a discarded pizza box that the suspect ate from.

With these DNA matches and very detailed phone records, he's bang to rights.

Just came across this video that contains a lot of fascinating new info. The cops in NYC stated that a deciding factor in arresting him when they did was the strong suspicion he was about to "go active again." It's really creepy speculating what the long term plans of these two might have been: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYS4SvCRUsY

I hate to say it but it's par for the course. We're a society pretty obsessed with serial killers. Quasi-celebrities that we claim we hate but we can't get enough of.

reply

Yikes, that is a scary porn search history. A lot of things ain’t right there.

reply

Sadistic pedo with a bondage fetish.

Explains why many of the victims were very petite women. I imagine he liked them as child like as possible. The size of several of the victims found on the LI beach;
4ft11, 105lbs
4ft10, 95lbs
5ft5
4ft11, 100lbs
5ft, 100lbs
5ft6 (Asian Male who may have been trans/female presenting, his 'asian twink' porn search is interesting... means this may be another one of his victims)

reply

Yeah, I read about the Asian trans victim. This monster had a lot of weird shit going on in his head.

This Rex guy doesn’t really appear the type but don’t we always say that. The neighbors did say he ‘kept to himself, never made a peep.’ We read this a lot about the loonies too.

I sure hope they got their man in any event.
