Official Media Purchases Thread 📼 📀 💽

It looks like Kowalski had a good recent haul so here’s what I’ve got so far this year.

Has anyone else made any good physical media purchases?

reply

I never buy physical media these days, but recently made an exception to get a signed copy of Mary Spender's CD.

reply

How much did that baby cost?

reply

$51 ($34 plus $17 shipping from the UK to the USA). I've been following Mary on YouTube for over a year and have enjoyed a ton of free content from her, so I was happy to give a little support to a very talented and charming independent artist.

I went to the mall today and picked up:

Dumbo (original animated)
Dumbo (live action remake)
Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (Arrow)
Spider-man 3 movie collection (Homecoming, Far From Home, No Way Home)

reply

Gosh, I love the original Dumbo. It used to make me so sad when I was a kid.

You must have a pretty large collection going now Allaby.

reply

It's been years since I saw the original Dumbo. I'm due for a rewatch and the blu ray has got some nice special features on it. I have a pretty good size collection, not as large as Kowalski's though (but that guy is a movie maniac and that is why we love him). I've got 8 bookcases (of a variety of sizes) plus 2 lockers with movies in them. I'm going to run out of space soon if I keep it up!

reply

I know how your feeling buddy. It’s an addiction. 😀

reply

We will have to form a support group for movie-a-holics.

reply

I’m with ya!

Here are a few more of my most recent media purchases. Has anyone else bought any movies lately?

reply

I got Show Boat and Walker on Criterion blu ray last week. Tomorrow, I will likely go to the mall and buy some more movies. I'm always open to any recommendations.

“I'm always open to any recommendations”

As far as my above purchases I would say Companeros (1970) is the winner out of that group. I gave it 5 stars and Damosuzuki gave it 4- 1/2 on LetterboxD. It’s the ultimate buddy spaghetti western, especially if you like Corbucci. It’s currently on Arrow streaming.

reply

I might have to check it out.

reply

As expected I went to the mall today. I got:

Film Noir Dark Side of Cinema volumes 5 and 6 on blu ray
Round Midnight Criterion blu ray
The Girl Can’t Help It Criterion blu ray

reply

Doesn’t Round Midnight have some Herbie Handcock music in it?

reply

Yes, he won an Oscar for the score.

reply

I went to the mall and got:

Brain Damage
Basket Case
Girls Nite Out
Halloween Kills

reply

I saw Girls Nite Out is new on Arrow and I haven’t checked it out yet. Have you seen it?

Brain Damage is pretty good. Lol

reply

I haven't seen Girls Nite Out yet, but it sounds like fun. I will likely watch the blu ray today.

reply

I watched Girls Nite Out today. It was pretty fun and enjoyable, definitely worth watching. I would rate it a 7/10.

reply

I’ll give it a watch tonight. Thanks.

reply

I’m 20 minutes in and and these have to be some of the most irritating guys in slasher history. I hope they all die. 😆

reply

What did you think of the film? Rating out of 10?

reply

I have to go with a score lower than yours with a 6/10 just based of the obnoxiousness of the male cast. It was nice seeing Hal Holbrook and I can’t believe the nice lady from The Deer Hunter was capable of such crimes. 😀

Here are a couple of recent vinyl purchases.

Today I got:

The Batman
X
Wild Things Arrow limited edition
Film noir 10 movie dvd collection

reply

Do you ever order off EBay?

reply

No, I have never ordered off Ebay. I prefer going in to a store and touching the merchandise and buying it in store.

reply

It must be nice to have a store that keeps such a great selection on hand! I would certainly frequent such a place.

reply

I just got this one in yesterday.

Today I picked up some Scream Factory blu rays. I got:

Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh
Dr Jekyll & Sister Hyde
Idle Hands
The Slumber Party Massacre (original)
The Slumber Party Massacre (remake)

reply

Have you seen Jekyll & Sister Hyde? I’ve read about it before but haven’t watched it yet.

reply

I hadn't seen it before I bought it. I just watched it now and enjoyed it. 8/10 would be my rating. Definitely recommended.
