New rules for future game:

We change rule number 3 to:
3a. Post one question or/and one guess at a given time.
3b. If you have more than one question and one guess unanswered at a given time, the others didn't count and will be ignore by the host.
3c. You can't have two questions or two guesses at a given time, if you have, the last ones didn't count and will be ignore by the host (see 3a).
4d. You can't guess the famous more than two times in a row. After two guesses you must ask a question.

The new rules open for discussion.

reply

"4d. You can't guess the famous more than two times in a row. After two guesses you must ask a question."

I dunno about this one. At a certain point, when the game has been going on long enough and things are sufficiently narrowed down, it makes more sense to try to guess who the person is than to ask another question. If there aren't any more questions that would meaningfully add something to our knowledge of the person, this rule could serve as more of a handicap than a help.

I agree with the others though.

reply

3. Maximum 1 question and 1 guess per player per answer.
I think this is good enough.

3a. vote no
3b. Too wordy and unwieldy. vote no
3c. Too wordy and unwieldy. vote no
4d. I think this is covered by 3.

Rather than change the rules as above I think we just follow the existing rules. Maybe like StoneKeeper's, two guesses per hint (answer) would be ok. But overall...I wait for other's input.

reply

StoneKeepr's game is slower, here you can't play per answer, it's impossible for the host to follow.

what about that?

rule number 3 to:
3a. Maximum one question and one guess at a given time.
3b. You can't have two questions or two guesses at a given time.
3c. The host have the right to ignore any question or guess that violate rules 3a and 3b

reply

You are quite right that Boromir's is a faster game, and we should absolutely consider that.

I don't want any rule that states the host has a right to ignore a question. Too confrontational. If the host has a problem with a player's conduct, this can be worked out on a case-by-case basis, and perhaps a new rule might come out of it.

reply

You alright with 3a and 3b?

reply

3a - Unnecessary if we follow 3. I think.
3b - I will wait to see if anyone thinks we should have 2 guesses per answer.

reply

I have no stronge opinions about it.
I'm willing to go with the consensus.

I often give more than one question at a time if there are only one or two players. I'm definitely willing to clean it up and stop doing that.

reply

With one or two players we can play more loose.
I don't want strict rules.

reply

It's fast game, if we play per answer, each player can have more than 3-5 active guesses.

reply

I think one question/guess per player per answer is best.

reply

An alternative would be one question and two guesses per player per answer.

But are you essentially saying, keep the rules as they are?

reply

I guess so, essentially. Only the rule hasn't really been enforced up to now, so it's only been a rule in theory rather than in practice.

reply

I am not agree, all people play by the rules, and the rules allow multiple guesses and questions.

if the host answers 3 questions before yours, at that time you can added 3 more question and so on

reply

But the rules section the whole time has said one question at a time per person.

reply

per answer per person.
every person can ask one question and guess per answer.

reply

I've experienced players making two guesses in quick succession. So far I haven't minded, which is why I thought maybe one question and two guesses per player per answer might be an alternative.

reply

change it to two guesses. some of the games are too slow with just one guess esp. if there are few players.

reply

^I would agree. At least it's worth a trial.

reply

Two seems like a reasonable compromise.

reply

Exactly.
Maybe just put that rule in bold print to emphasize that this has become a problem. All the heavy hitters are here though, and getting the message.

reply

I don't think it's supposed to be cumulative. If a game in progress has twenty questions and 20 answers, that doesn't mean a new player can come in and post 20 questions and guesses in a row.

reply

There is no need for it to be cumulative for a player to reach multiple active questions. You just need to be a little faster after each answer than others.

reply

In every dilemma I encounter in life I always remember the words of my mentor
Gandalf "Let the Ring-bearer decide".

You the ring bearer of this game nyctc7, I let you decide what we will do next.

reply

In StoneKeeper's, StoneKeeper has final say.
In Boromir's, Boromir has final say.

:)

reply

In the book Boromir follow Aragorn.

Anyway I give up, I changed the rules after several complaints, I thought it will help and now no for some reason no one is satisfied and you even want to increase the questions per answers.

You the next host.

reply

There were some threads regarding rule changes in StoneKeeper's that were pretty long and heated. This one here is just fine. Don't feel bad. Remember that this game has become successful. Thank you for starting it. The downside is, yes, Boromir, you have the final say. But don't let that ruin your day :)

reply

you, Kawada_Kira and hownos wants to changed it two guesses - so be it.

This is my final say.

reply

Haha yeah, this one is pretty mild compared to some of the barn-burners we've had over on StoneKeeper's game lol.

reply

the purple time out barrier also works well in this game

reply

no to all. the game is fine as it is. i have been doing a maximum of two questions per answer which is about right. i also do two guesses per hint as the game goes on. flexibility is needed in the game. i don't care if a person asks four questions in a row when i am hosting. just take one at a time.

reply

I just want to remind everyone that this game called "guess the famous game".

reply

Could you add Mephistopheles and Ernst Stavro Blofeld to fictional characters list

reply

We never decided on Kawada's proposal here https://moviechat.org/general/General-Discussion/616343f570ebcb3bafb72d63/List-All-Boromirs-guess-the-famous-game-1-200 (scroll to bottom)

Non-human fictional characters have been used so far, but I don't think non-human non-fictional characters have been used.
In favor so far: Kawada, Boromir, Laura

PLUS: Adds a new and interesting dimension to the game.
MINUS: Might cause confusion if players forget to ask, Human?

Current Rule: 1. I'm thinking of some famous person, it can be a film actor, a philosopher, a president, a prime minister, a singer, fictional character, mafia man etc.

reply

What about the word figure instead of a person?

reply

You've hit on it, the right word is what we are looking for!

reply

I like this

reply

Thanks both of you.
The next host will change it to figure.

reply

What do you think of adding animal and being? See below.

reply

Proposed:

1. I'm thinking of some famous figure, it can be a film actor, a philosopher, a president, a prime minister, a singer, fictional character, mafia man, animal, being, etc.

Note I added animal and being at the end. Any other ideas?

reply

Agree with your new propose - we will add them in the next game.
I don't think for now there is need for other examples.

reply

I agree, but I would like hownos's input. I will PM him.

reply

[deleted]

hownos has reservations, and it is something to consider:

"I am against. this will lead to more obscure long games."

This could very well be true. But I would agree to go ahead and try the new rule, but remind players, as you did Boromir, that the person, character, or being, is supposed to be famous!

reply

Important reservation by hownos.

Maybe hownos right. I only can said, that most of my ideas for nonhuman-nonfictional figures (NHNF) are I believe more famous than many people in our list.

only in 7.4% games we pick fictional characters, so I don't think we going to seen a flood of NHNF figures. As you said, we must pick people who are famous in some degree, this way we will avoid too many long games. Lately there is a feeling of competition between the hosts in this area.

reply

So let's give it a try!

reply

What about changing mafia man to something more general like criminal?

reply

Yes.

reply

I'm thinking of some famous figure, it can be a film actor, a philosopher, a president, a prime minister, a singer, fictional character, criminal animal, being, etc.

Your thought?

reply

Yes.

If you want to tighten it further, you could substitute "politician" for president/prime minister and "entertainer" for actor/singer. Totally up to you.

reply

I'm thinking of some famous figure, it can be a philosopher, politician, entertainer, scientist, fictional character, criminal, animal, being, etc.

reply

I like it

reply

i will do one
