Question About Prime Video

When you're looking at movie information to find the date the movie was made, it often has 2021 instead of the year the movie was actually made. Does anyone know the reason for this?

I thought maybe it was the year Amazon acquired the rights to show it, but who would care about that? I would think most people are more interested in the year the movie came out.

reply

Yes, in some cases it's the year Prime acquired the rights to stream the movie, not the actual year of production

I watched a slasher from the 80s a few nights ago with 2020 as the year on Prime

Thanks!

Prime is a mess. I hate the way they mix in the movies you can watch for free and those you can buy or rent. The service has gone downhill in the past year or so.

reply

They have a filter called either "Prime Movies" or "Free to me", which only displays content that is free for Primer members.

reply

That is annoying as hell
I pay the annual subscription fee and order at least half the stuff I need through these vampires and then they want $2.99 to watch Back To The Future?!?

Amazon is a Fine company but that shit irks me!

i have never noticed this. maybe it's set up a bit differently in canada? seems unlikely, but who knows? i just checked all the movies on my watchlist, and they all show the year of release.

I just found out this year that when you set criteria in imdb title search, you can also click prime free. I've been using that a lot this year.
