To make something retrospectively compatible.
"He was tasked with retrocomping the PlayStation to play older discs."
Isn't that the same as retrofit?

Definition:
add (a component or accessory) to something that did not have it when manufactured.
"motorists who retrofit catalysts to older cars"
It is similar, but compatibility is the focus of the verb retrocomp.
