StoneKeeper's Game: I Recommend THIS Movie #1474 - So Good You Can't Ignore [LauraGrace traces the skies with STARMAN]

Well, it's been a festive turkey-stuffed evening. How about some dessert?

I have a movie in mind and you have to guess which one it is. For each movie you guess, I will give a hint that connects your guess with the movie I have in mind.

For each guess, a connection is posted. Example of connections: Actor, length, genre, aspect ratio, language, country, year, director, actor, writer in common, rating, number of votes, nominations. It can even be something like: both movies involve Cabbage Patch Kids. Also, you can use Metascore color or rating, Rotten Tomatoes score, any award wins or nominations in common, same number of words in the title, plot keywords. Note: "Plot" in the IMDB advanced search links to "Plot Summary" on the film's page. "Keyword" in the advanced search links to "Plot Keyword" on the film's page.

Helpful search engine: https://www.imdb.com/search/title/ Click on Feature Film and TV Movie. Then modify for the hints as they are posted.

- The winner can either start a new game or say "pass". In case of a pass, the OP gets to start another one.
- After 12 hints and 15 incorrect guesses, the point goes to the OP. He/she gets to start another one.
- Movie must have at least 3500 IMDB votes. Otherwise, add a bonus hint. No documentaries.
- Maximum 2 guesses per player per hint.
- Can't edit a guess once posted. Delete ONLY
- Post one Hint at a time.

Let's get it on!

Hint 2: Marvin's Room (1996) - USA/English.
Hint 3: Snoopy Come Home (1972) - MPA rating is not R.
Hint 4: Toy Story 3 (2010) - At least one cast member has been nominated for an Oscar.
Hint 5: A Christmas Carol (1938) - Green metascore.
Hint 6: On the Rocks (2020) - Color.
Hint 7: The Truman Show (1998) - Director does not have writing credit.
Hint 8: The Man with Two Brains (1983) - Sci-Fi.
Hint 9: Body Snatchers (1993) - The premise involves a character assuming the identity of someone else.
Hint 10: The Fury (1978) - The lead actor is a son of another established person in the entertainment industry.
Hint 11: Deadpool 2 (2018) - The lead actor has appeared in a Marvel movie.
Hint 12: Source Code (2011) - IMDB user rating is swimming in the 7s.

It was a tussle, but Laura prevails on this journey with Starman (1984), a distinct gem in John Carpenter's oeuvre. Jeff Bridges puppets his body in a very convincing performance of an alien trying to maneuver a foreign robot while Karen Allen provides the emotional center as her character struggles to comprehend this alien life form taking on the appearance of her deceased husband. Also great is Charles Martin Smith as an atypical villain, a government scientist who recognizes the historic implications of this first contact. That this movie is able to pack some big universal ideas into an intimate story is a testament to the narrative, and Carpenter brings a determined vision to perhaps his most sentimental work. I am simply thankful for this movie.

"I watched you very carefully. Red light stop, green light go, yellow light go very fast."

Source Code (2011)

Hint. It's just about the only option...

reply

Is it a 1980's romance from a director known for writing his own music?

reply

Yes

reply

and the mystery film is... ?

reply

Starman 1984. What's wrong with everybody, it was right there. Geesh

reply

You got it, Laura!

reply

I read it wrong, had rated R.

Hint 4 Toy Story 3 (2010) - “At least one cast member has been nominated for an Oscar. The lead in BOTH Toy Story 3 and in Starman is an Oscar WINNING actor, not one merely nominated. So I KNEW it could NOT be Starman (1984), (a title on my list for a future game).

Hint 2: Marvin's Room (1996) “USA/English”. Even though a male Oscar winner is in the cast of both films. Hint 7: The Truman Show (1998) “Director does not have writing credit.“ But that film is also rated the same, PG, AND has the Sci-fi genre. But this game was to go 4 hours on Thanksgiving night, so too soon for that.

Hint 10: The Fury (1978) - “The lead actor is a son of another established person in the entertainment industry”. Improper hint. The lead actor in The Fury is Kirk Douglas. He is NOT the son of anyone in the entertainment industry. Maybe this meant Andrew Stevens, who is listed 7th in the credits, the son of actress Stella Stevens.

I think I'm going to take a hard PASS on Fred's games for awhile. Maybe he'll have a 5-hour game on Christmas night!

The turkey was possessing me. Richard Jaeckel was the nominee.
