You're not shy you get around....Got fire in your veins... Burning hot but you don't feel the pain....Answer. Urgent by Foreigner

I said I didn't feel nothing, baby, but I lied
I almost cut a piece of myself for your life
Guess I was just another pit stop
'Til you made up your mind
You just wasted my time

You were on top, I put you on top
I claimed you so proud and openly, babe
And when times were rough
When times were rough
I made sure I held you close to me……………………………….

So let's get to the point
Let's roll another joint

I sure do miss Tom Petty...so many awesome songs (including this one). This is from "You Don't Know How It Feels."

They'll stone you when you're riding in your car
They'll stone you when you're playing your guitar
Yes, but I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned

"Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" - Bob Dylan.

I think I have an idea of what your theme is! 😀

Good sense, innocence, cripplin' mankind
Dead kings, many things I can't define
Occasions, persuasions clutter your mind
******* & ***********, the color of time

Who cares what games we choose
Little to win, but nothing to lose

"Incense and Peppermint" - Strawberry Alarm Clock. Little bit of trivia...the lead guitar player for SAC was Ed King, who was such a huge part of Lynyrd Skynyrd (RIP). Great guitar solo in this song!

reply

I had an old friend— lost contact, hope he’a still alive— who worked the road with these guys; a manager/flunky type. He said they needed the incense, especially when the hashish was passed around. Im not sure if it was the same guys, probably not all the originals, but I think they played the Whiskey just before the lockdown, ‘18 or ‘19. My friend was in his 80s, those dudes have to be close to that too….

Good times….

Awesome! "Incense & Peppermint" is such a great song. It obviously worked out for Ed King, but it makes one wonder what other great songs the SAC would have made, had King not left them and joined Skynyrd. As far as I know, I've never heard anything else from SAC except this song.

Lately things just don't seem the same
Actin' funny but I don't know why
'Scuse me while I kiss the sky

"Purple Haze" - The late, great Jimi Hendrix. I loved seeing that you're a big fan of Hendrix...what an incredible musician he was.

reply

The riffs…powerful, filthy, funky, blissfully loud, unusually catchy….Crosstown Traffic and Voodoo Child anytime …..

reply

He was just incredible, so far ahead of his time. I really, really wish he had stayed alive so much longer than what he did. It would have been so interesting to see what direction his music would have gone, had he lived longer (I feel that way about Buddy Holly as well). I love his singing voice also.

I was alone
I took a ride
I didn't know what I would find there
Another road where maybe I
Could see another kind of mind there
And suddenly I see you
Did I tell you I need you
Every single day of my life

"Got To Get You Into My Life" - The Beatles. Speaking of so many great songs....😀

reply

This is an “after the fact” entry to the theme. Straddling the line between the mop top, Brit Pop boy band image and the upcoming counterculture, this song was thought to be a love song of sorts. It appears McCartney wrote this one after his first experiences with the grass. And that fits; even when all were alive, he was considered the biggest pothead of the Liverpool Lads….

reply

Yes...very well said. I love The Beatles and their music so much...but, from a "human standpoint," they were an odd group of guys, weren't they? 😀 Paul seems very traditional and "old-fashioned" with some of his values (He genuinely seemed to love Linda), but he does seem to love his "grass." 😀 As a group, they had a tendency to "lay it between the lines," as Peter, Paul, & Mary sang...e.g., "Doctor Robert," Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds," et.al.

And I'm a sinner
I play my music in the sun
I'm a *****
I'm a smoker
I'm a midnight toker
I sure don't want to hurt no one

"The Joker" - The Steve Miller Band. I think this was one of his #1 hits back in the day. To be honest, it's one of my least favorite songs from him! 😀 I love the SMB, though!

reply

Yeah, this is the song that buys the house, the cars, the trips, the kids’ braces….the band will eat out at the finest restaurants because of this one….I’m sure ‘Fly Like an Eagle’ helps too….

reply

Yes, so true! Steve Miller is one of those musicians whose music I love and have listened to for a long time...but I could walk right by him on the street and probably not even recognize him (I know he's pretty short and have a general idea of what he looks like, but not enough to where I'd be 100% confident that I'd recognize him)! 😀
