As much as I love The Irishman I have to ask - why did they pick that book?

It’s almost universally considered false by most respected historians and Hoffa experts. Scorsese is a perfectionist and his attention to detail is second to none. He wants to get everything right, so why compromise so dramatically here?

The idea of one guy being a part of all of these infamous events is alluring but it’s clearly not true, couldn’t he have gone with a more realistic take?

He said De Niro came to him with it and was passionate about it, even after a former FBI (or CIA) investigator on the case told him it was bogus.

Great movie, but I can’t help but wonder if it couldn’t have been evem more legendary if it had been more accurate.

It was a terrific story
I have my doubts about a lot of it being factual but it's certainly a fine yarn

The Hoffa endgame did make a lot of sense, that would be the way it would go down

reply

Yeah it made for a great story for sure, I just wonder how a more accurate take would’ve played. Def one of my favorite movies of all time regardless.

Ten nominations and not a single win; had to have been somewhat of a bitter pill for Scorsese to swallow.

reply

Yeah, it’s bullshit

reply

Yes, I get your point, but how many threads do you need to post about this? And why not on the board for The Irishman?

reply

Lol sorry. That board a dead. You get my point about this post or that I like the Irishman?
